I grew to love the inclusive use of "we"/"our" used for Otsuka for large variety of characters and demographics used in the novel. I learned so much from this novel, and the listing of events occuring during the women's lifetimes helped me to visualize the characters and communities.

More poetry than prose. The story uses a "statistical" writing style. Rather than following a single character, the experiences and perspectives of many characters are presented through phrases like "One of us X. Many of us Y." I love the idea--and I can imagine taking something like the census and literally writing statistical stories based on the data. In practice, unsurprisingly, the style can get repetitive, so it was good that this book covered quite a bit of ground and was brief.

I really love it how was written. The writing consolidated a lot of thoughts from many people. I really felt their emotions. The subject was deep since the beginning, never felt down and always with details that make you seen them clearly.
5 stars :D
