What a great ending to one of my favorite dystopian series. Veronica Roth is a brilliant writer and her characters develop so well through out each book, but they really developed in this one. Aria is a perfect protagonist who is strong, determined, and a great leader. Perry is a perfect hero but not in a sappy, guy-with-a-hero-complex way. He just truly puts others before himself and takes his oaths of leadership to heart. And while he does try to protect Aria with his life, I like that he still wants her to come along on missions and fight & truly values her as a partner and not just someone that is too stupid or weak to be an asset. And boy is Sable a great villain. Brilliant, arrogant, sociopathic.... All in all I loved this entire series from start to finish.

I can’t believe this series sat unread on my shelves for so many years! I adored it! Perry and Aria are now one of my favorite couples. Aria and Roar’s friendship reminds me a lot of Juliette and Kenji’s from Shatter Me. Cinder has a little bit of an Eleven from Stranger Things vibe going on. The whole story gave me Shatter Me vibes at times. It’s exactly what I wanted from a classic YA dystopian series 🙌🏻 If you haven’t read this one, pick it up already!!
Graphic: Death, Gun violence, Blood, Grief, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Child death
Exciting, heart wrenching and breathtaking. These were what I've thought of this earth-shattering conclusion to Veronica Rossi's trilogy. Aria and Perry overcame their differences, the resistance of the tribe to their relationship and distance. And now their facing their worst fears as they near their journey into the Still Blue.
“Fear is dangerous. It sparks violence much faster than anger.”
Never thought I’d say this but after reading this bittersweet conclusion, Aria and Perry became one of my favorite couples, and Perry and Roar’s friendship was now one of my favorite bromance(brotherly love). I saw how these three characters developed and improved and I must say that Rossi did a good job with these three. I also loved the platonic relationship between Aria and Roar, and how they were perfect as a boy-girl bestfriend. It proved that holding hands and bear hugs doesn't always meant intimacy, that sometimes it also brought comfort that words can not. I am so glad I got myself to finish the trilogy. This finale just showed me that teamwork is always possible especially if the world is ending. They crossed a lot of impossibilities and doubts in this story, they proved that everything can be bendable(is that even a word?).
“We all have the potential to do terrible things. But we also have the potential to overcome our mistakes.”
I was so into this book I found myself tearing up in some parts if the story. The love and friendship wasn't something hard to notice, and if it were possible I’d love to meet Aria, Perry and Roar. They faced grief and down moments without having any thoughts of giving up. Rossi did a good job making her characters feel connected with the readers, it felt as if I was with them every single time. I wanted to fist bump with Roar, tie Aria’s hair, and comfort Perry, AND murder Sable and let him bleed to death. Of course Aria and Perry never failed to cause flutters in my heart. This book wasn't just all about them being lovey-dovey, it showed their growth as a couple, as pair and partners. As leaders for the Outsiders and Dwellers. It was as if they were meant to be in each other’s life because they were the change the world was waiting for. The deviation that showed us that blood and tribe doesn't matter with love. Love crosses all boundaries even death and other impossibilities. They had issues and they weren't whiny, just being together was what made them fine even if they weren't really fine(yep, I know, ironic.)
“We have to tell each other the little things, the bad things. Maybe they’ll hurt for a while, but at least they won’t become big things. If we don’t, we’re just going to keep hurting each other. And I don’t want to do that anymore.”
This book had a lot of heartbreaking scenes though.
“Maybe his grief was like her wounded arm. Slowly healing. Gradually becoming les consuming as life delivered other worries and other joys. Other sources of pain and happiness. She wanted that for him. More life. More happiness.”
I am happy to say that I liked this conclusion, it was action packed, exciting and bittersweet. I was sad to see a few goodbyes but nevertheless it was good. It was touching and I had a great time finding Still Blue with Aria, Perry and Roar. I had to warn you though, not everyone may like this series but once you tried this you’ll notice the characters changing your mind with how you view this book. I cried, laugh and cringed with this book and I don’t regret picking up this series. I can't deny that I learned to love this series despite the disappointments I met when I started this series. Rossi did a good job with her characters and I have to applaud her for that. Reading this series was like Aria and Perry’s journey into the Still Blue, full of ups and downs and unexpected events, but full of love and strong bonds of friendships towards the end.

Spoiler
(WARNING: SPOILER ALERT) Cinder had to be sacrificed and Roar had to continue his life without Liv. Honestly, I wasn't convinced that Liv really died after reading the second book. I was hoping for a twist or a miracle that would suddenly make her alive and appear again. Nevermind the fact that I really want to know her more, but my heart really bled for Roar in this book. Everyone had their way of grieving and he misunderstood Perry’s way. He thought he was alone in missing Liv and his heart was full of anger and revenge. All throughout their journey to the Still Blue, he was blaming himself for everything that had happened to Liv and Perry.“Maybe his grief was like her wounded arm. Slowly healing. Gradually becoming les consuming as life delivered other worries and other joys. Other sources of pain and happiness. She wanted that for him. More life. More happiness.”

The third part of this series was as great as I expected it to be. A very easy read, exciting and amusing. The ending was predictable, but the eventual outcome was not. I expected less people to die.
I just couldn't get through this book. It got too repetitive and boring, and I just lost the will to finish it. I was really disappointed.
I loved, Loved, LOVED this book. I was so excited when it came in the mail, I did a bit of a happy dance around the living room.
And yes, I admit. I only cried twice.
I was so looking forward to see what happened with Roar, and Aria, and Perry. (Mostly Roar, but hey, why not)? We were left at such a cliff hanger in Through the Ever Night. (SABLE)!!!!
I thought this was actually a very beautiful story. It wove together the grief, and the happiness, and the conflict within the characters together perfectly.
Roar is such a strong character and we really came to see that in this third book. For the first time, we see him struggling with holding his composure after what happened in Rim. We see his transformation from happy, to dark and brooding, to only hurting.
Aria is such a strong main character. She cares so much about her friends in Tide that she would do anything to save them and get them to the Still Blue. I have a lot of respect for her character. After all that has happened to her, she still has the best interests of everyone at heart.
Perry is sweet and understanding, but if he was on the other side of a fight, I would switch sides. For sure. The way he values his family, from Talon to Aria, Roar, and Cinder is really showing of what type of a person he is. In this book we really got to see him struggle with his role as Blood Lord. He was conflicted many times about doing the right thing or just doing the right thing for those he cared about most.
Sable is such an awful guy that I just wanted to reach into the pages and wring his scrawny neck for most of the book. Ugh.
AND THEN CINDER. My heart died a little while reading about his struggles. For a majority of the book, Cinder is scared...terrified really. Sable wants to use him to get to the Still Blue. The fear that Cinder is experiencing is absolutely traumatizing. He puts on a facade of being braze and confident, but if you peel back those layers, you see that the fear is eating him from the inside out. I love everything about Cinder and to see him struggling and living in fear absolutely broke my heart.
Terrific book. I was sad for a good part, worried for a good part, and happy for a good part. What more could you ask for??

Really a wonderful ending. So much anxiety and action in this final novel. The ending was well worth it. I'm glad Rossi ended up keeping Perry, as well as Cinder's legacy. I think it ended well. I wondered maybe if they should have had more obstacles to jump over when they reached the barrier but in the end those obstacles were solved on the island itself. Rossi did a splendid job wrapping up all the loose ends. A nice ending.
Not as good as Through the Ever Night, but a strong, satisfying ending to the trilogy. I will miss this world, particularly Roar.
