First off, this review is going to have ALL THE SPOILERS because I can’t talk about Into The Still Blue by Veronica Rossi without talking about what’s happened in previous books. Second off, I might get a little bit screechy in this review because THIS IS THE END OF THE SERIES and holy moly, my feels are still recovering and yes, I am having a bit of a hangover, which is apt as this was my first read of the year, finished on New Year’s Day. Friends, I could not pick a more epic start to 2014 than Perry and Aria and the Outsiders and Dwellers. I kind of feel like they are my real life friends now. We have been through so much in so short of a time. True story, I am starting to think of fictional people as real because of this whole series.

I had a rocky start with this trilogy. If it hadn't been for my friends insisting that Through the Ever Night was worth going through the first book I never would have bothered even starting this journey, but I'm glad I listened to my friends because they were right, it was totally worth it.

I have a love/hate relationship with the last books in series, whether they are finished or not, as long as they are the last one so far I tend to wait ages to get around to it. Sometimes it's because I actually couldn't care less how it ends, and sometimes it's because I just don't want it to end, but in the case of Into The Still Blue I just had to know what was going to happen to Aria, Perry, Roar, and Cinder after the awesomeness that was Through the Ever Night. I'm glad to report that I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't as great as it's predecessor, but it was nonetheless a satisfying ending.

What I liked the most about Into the Still Blue was how realistic it was. Rossi didn't shy away from killing a few people here and there and from the realities of the nature of people. Just because they finally found paradise in the form of the Still Blue it by no means meant that their lives would be paradise. Lives were lost, homes were left behind, and their views of the world were now turned upside down for both parties. One had to learn to live without the advanced technologies they were used to and the other had to learn to live with the people that had cast them out to begin with and I think Rossi did a great job at portraying this.

I wish there had been more of a solution for Roar. I love his character and having to see him suffer was horrible D: He was in so much pain, but he kept putting one foot in front of the other and just taking it one day at a time, and I loved him for it. I just wish I could have seen a happy ending for him too. Cinder was another character that really shined here. For such a young kid to have had to face the realities that he did and to triumph through them was both sad and beautiful to watch.

Into the Still Blue while not being as amazing as Through the Ever Night it nonetheless provided a satisfying ending to Rossi's trilogy.

2.5/5*

Na začátku byl konec druhého dílu, který jsem přečetla během chvilky ve vlaku. A pak začal díl třetí. Začátek byl nudný, ale posledních 150 stran se opět četlo velmi rychle, bylo to napínavé, i když mě konec nijak nepřekvapil. Ten prostředek (začátek) to prostě kazil, kdyby to nebyl závěrečný díl, asi bych to nedočetla, nakonec si ale můžu odškrtnou další dočtenou sérii.

Cekově mám tuto sérii ráda, bavilo mě to, ale není to nic, k čemu bych se ještě někdy chtěla vracet.

After reading the first two books in the series, I felt committed and forced myself to finish the third book. I sort of wish I hadn't. It was predictable and sort of boring. Not badly written but definitely not for me.

Confession time…I almost didn’t read this book, the third and final in the series. I know, I know, why read the first two and not the last. Well I have to admit I just wasn’t crazy about the second book and it kind of turned me off. It was okay, but not what I had wanted/expected. With that said, when I was granted an early copy of Into the Still Blue, I knew I needed to read it so I did. Another confession…it was my absolute favorite of the three. So I guess there is that.

Into the a Still Blue literally picks up where Through the Ever Night left off. Cinder is gone with Roar out after him. Perry and Aria have just gotten back from the now extinct pod with a new group of dwellers and a whole lot of problems. Faced with the fact that the Aether is quickly folding in on them Perry has to make a decision for the Tides and he has to do it fast. Unfortunately when Roar returns back to the Tides he doesn’t seem too pleased with Perry or willing to help him. But through him they learn that Hess and Sable have joined forces and all bets are off. Instead of just worrying about the Aether and the Still Blue Perry has another force to deal with and it could be deadlier than anything else…Sable’s thirst for power and control of everything.

First things first, Into the Still Blue was action packed. Everywhere you turned there was something going on that left you breathless and wondering how the characters were going to get out of the given situation. It definitely worked to keeping me on my toes and wanting to read more. And I think was a huge part of the reason I didn’t like Through the Ever Night as much as it seemed boring. But Into the Still Blue was anything but boring. Actually it was downright enjoyable. Was some of it unbelievable and staged, definitely. But it worked for the story so I didn’t hate it. All the twists and turns seemed unexpected and expected at the same time and it all worked well. I do with there was more to the Sable story, but I won’t get into that as I don’t want to give anything away. But even with all the action, what I liked the most about the story was the characters.

From book one we got to really know Aria, Perry and Roar. We got to hear their thoughts and feel their feels and live their lives. We saw where they started and where they ended and I have to say the transformation was remarkable. Rossi made them grow up right before our eyes. These three people were very lost in Under the Never Sky. They formed a bond but didn’t have a place. But as life moved on and circumstances changed each one of them adapted and become strong and independent characters that I know I personally appreciated. I will say I thought Roar being mad at Perry the way he was was a little strange, but I got the idea behind it and it did logically make sense. That aside it was remarkable to see the bond just strengthen between these friends, and in the case of Aria and Perry, lovers. They relied on one another and we relied on them and Rossi delivered.

Without giving anything away, Into the Still Blue will take your breath away and having you on the end of your seat while smiling and laughing and maybe even tearing up. It was the perfect way to end a great series and I’m thankful I didn’t skip this book. It washed away the icky feeling from book two and made me love all of them again. Well done Ms. Rossi, well done.

It was a lukewarm ending. All the story lines were wrapped up nicely but I really would have liked to see a little more action.

I love all of the characters growth. The overall series was a 4 star read. This was the only book in the series that I didn't love don't get me wrong I liked it. It was just missing action.

4.5 stars
I love Aria, Perry and Roar. I wish there were more scenes of then together at the end of the book. I am also excited to meet Verinoca Rossi in April :)

“We all have the potential to do terrible things. But we also have the potential to overcome our mistakes.”

I almost never pick the second book in a series as my favourite, but in this series it was. I absolutely loved the excitement and drive to survive that was noticeable in the second one - and then with this final book, it felt a bit like a repeat. A repeat, as well as a predictable tale. I knew from the start of the book where it was going to go and even though there were some losses in this book, the deaths were quite obvious from the start. I feel quite underwhelmed by this conclusion; however it still remains a highly recommended series for me. Character driven and plot wise very well done, as well as intriguing writing that will keep you engaged.

After loving "Through the Ever Night" I have no idea why I can't get into this book (about 30% through and still feel "meh"). I'm putting it in DNF for now, but with the hopes that someday I'll read it.
