I enjoyed this novella and found it to be an excellent start to the series. It jumped into the action quickly without leaving out important background/plot details. I look forward to the rest of the series!
After reading book 1, I really don't think this prequel was necessary at all. I'll stick with my original 3 star rating because it didn't do anything wrong. It just didn't do much at all. This prequel covers what happens the hours leading up to book 1 and gives a super quick glimpse into the event(s) that kick start the series. But this entire thing is recapped in about 2 pages in Half-Blood. And personally I would have been find skipping this. I was a perfect readathon audiobook and definitely piqued my interest for the series. But other than that, I don't think it actually added anything to the story.

I was drawn in straight away by Alex's perspective. I was skeptical at first of the "stereotypical tough girl" personality but was pleasantly surprised when Alex broke the mould with her genuine intentions, dynamic personality and what I read as a silent feminist rage. The imagery I got from the daimons was fabulous and the adrenaline I felt during the final scenes was undeniable.
Daimon is the short prequel for Half Blood and it introduces us to the main character Alex. If you are thinking of starting this series then I would suggest Reading this book first as it gives some background information. I read Half-Blood first but this additional story is great.
Alex is a young girl who has been living with her mother in the normal world of humans for three years after fleeing their covenant. Alex is half human, half god which makes her a Half-Blood. But when her mother is suddenly killed by Daimons she has to run but her journey isn’t easy and even more problems await her.
This book is only 70-ish pages long but we learn a lot about the key characters. Alex is a fighter but losing her mother shook her up. You’ll love her and will be rooting for her. Half-Blood is even better and you will certainly enjoy this series. Jennifer Armentrout captivates you and leaves you pining for more.

Sooooo while it was great to see the beginning of Alex's story, I don't understand why it was made into a novella. I really think that this could have been put into the beginning of the first book, but that's just my personal opinion. I did appreciate the tibits with Alex's mom! It was great to see her before she was turned into a daimon. I probably will do a more in-depth review when I write a review for the second book Pure.
Damn. This shit was intense. Pretty stoked to carry on with the series now.
