I raced through this fast because it is a nice & short novella. It definitely got me hooked and left me wanting more. Alex is an awesome character, she is very BA & hilarious too (my favorite kind of female character)! I related to her pretty quickly. The world building was fast, but got my attention, I can't wait to learn more. There were some crazy things that happened, it was almost non-stop but totally awesome! Also can't wait to learn more about Aiden, he sounds awesome & hot :) I am eagerly awaiting Half-Blood & I definitely recommend reading Daimon.

This story was awesome! I can't wait to read what happens next in Half-Blood. The story was written very well and it was easy to follow.

The story is a very good lead up to the series filling in the gaps that would have led the main character (Alex) to where she is now. I hope everyone that isn't sure about this series will read this prequel. If this doesn't convince you that this series will be amazing I don't know what will. This is a great introduction to the series and I recommend you all read it.

I am a classics student so I am a bit of a sucker for classical mythology and I am really interested to see the way in which Jennifer Armentrout will take the Greek mythological character and adapt them for her story.

Happy Reading!

Totally forgot to leave a comment but it made me excited to read half-blood…

Really not gonna bother rating this. 100% could’ve just been part of book 1 instead of a novella. I hope the rest of the series gets better bc I really don’t want to read “it’s on like donkey Kong” or “the walk home sucked butt” ever again.

Daimon is the prequel to the Covenant series. In this book we get the story of what happened with Alex before she was taken back to the Covenant. It helps to read this before Half Blood to understand what happened with Alex's mom.

Quick and easy read. If you are about to start the series read this first.

I didn't think of this as a prequel...more of a prologue. My review for Half Blood will be for this book as well.

Alexandria has been trying to acclimate into normal, everyday human life, but she has a secret she can't tell anyone: she is not normal, and she does not truly belong in everyday, human life. Alex is the offspring of a mortal and a demigod, which means she has ties to a part of the world that most people never know about. Alex and her mother formerly called the Covenant home, where if they had stayed, Alex might have trained as a guard or another role in that life. Instead, she and her mother are on the run, and laying low to not draw attention to themselves, either from the Covenant, or from daimons, who crave the aether half-bloods and pure-bloods have running in their veins.

Right away I developed a huge soft spot for Alex. She's tough, and she's strong, and she can fight. But she also, on some level, wants to belong, and since she is so different, it just isn't happening for her. She has a smart mouth at times, but she has a big, huge heart, and it's easy to see in her interaction with her mother just how much she cares about the people that she loves. She's pretty fierce. I've seen a lot of people comparing her to Rose from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series, and I can see the similarities, but Alex is a unique character all her own, too.

When a daimon tracks down Alex and her mother, Alex takes flight, desperately hoping to make it back to the nearest Covenant, and some sort of safety. Reeling from the shock of the daimon's attack, and the losses she suffered, Alexandria nevertheless perseveres, making difficult choices to leave behind the life she'd been trying to build, and go back to the first home she ever knew. She doesn't know if they will accept her. She doesn't know if her mother's fears about the Covenant were right. All she knows is that they may be her only chance at survival.

Leaving off on a breathless cliffhanger, Daimon leaves you anxious for more, as Jennifer Armentrout sets up this wonderful teaser to her novel, Half-Blood, due out in September. The perfect mix of the paranormal, some mythology, and a hint of romance, Daimon is a fantastic prologue to Half-Blood.

This is a short novella and a prequel to the first novel in the Covenant series, Half-Blood. I have to admit that I read Half-Blood first, and while I read I found several things that didn't work well for me in that book. However, I felt as if things improved a lot in that book by the end, and I had high hopes that this series would just keep getting better and better. I'm not sure if this prequel was written before or after Half-Blood, but it did seem to have much better writing than I found in Half-Blood. It was more like the latter half of that book. In fact, I almost wish that this novella had actually been incorporated into that novel at the beginning. I think that it would have made that novel a good bit better.

The events of this book take place almost immediately before Half-Blood begins. There is a short scene at the beginning of Alex as a young girl getting judged by Hematoi as to her worthiness. This quickly pushes forward to the point right before Alex's mother is killed by a Daimon, changing Alex's life forever. Alex and her mother are entrenched in the normal human world, trying to stay under the radar, and having to move every once in a while in order to do this. Alex still has no idea why they live this way or why she was taken out of the Covenant by her mother three years earlier. These scenes are alluded to in the beginning scene of Half-Blood, but it was really nice to see the expanded versions in this short novella. It adds a richness to Alex's experience that isn't really fully formed in Half-Blood until almost halfway through the book. You really could understand her despair and anger and the confusion she is thrown in after her mother dies. Aiden's rescue mission seems even more awesome when you truly see what sort of dire circumstances Alex was in. Everything helped illuminate so many parts of the beginning of Half-Blood so much that I immediately wanted to pick up that book again and re-read it with my new knowledge. I did, and I found that I enjoyed those early scenes a lot more.

This isn't a grand story, so you shouldn't expect a stand alone sort of novel where anything gets resolved, but it is an excellent prequel to the main event that will begin in Half-Blood. If you have the choice, read this book first. It will improve your reading experience of the next book immensely. I'm glad I took the time to read this, and I plan on re-reading both books again in preparation for the arrival of Pure later this year. Yea!
