Good but
The author's good. He makes reading about running almost interesting. But I found myself skimming in the sections where he went into too much detail about the run and the lead-up to it. I just wasn't super invested in every person's story.

I thought this was going to be more memoir with fun sports facts sprinkled throughout type of book; it read more like a journalist trying to write a compelling story about a writing assignment.

Born to Run reads like a joyful sprint through history, culture, and human potential. McDougall takes you from the hidden canyons of the Tarahumara — a people shaped by resilience and simplicity — to the science of how we’re literally built to run. Along the way, you meet unforgettable characters like Micah True, whose belief in living up to your own expectations sticks with you. It’s part adventure, part celebration of movement, touching on diet, mindset, and why running can make us some of the happiest people alive.

I liked it. I liked his research approach and his ability to convey the points in quite entertaining terms. Reminded me a bit of Bill Bryson in that regard.
Some parts of this book will influence my thinking and open my mind into the future. Other parts were largely forgettable.
Overall, it was a good book but not great.

A fascinating narrative about the Tarahumara people of Mexico and the sport of ultrarunnning. The author's conclusions about barefoot running were interesting as were the glimpses into the psychology of the runners who seek out such intense experiences. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys stories of athletic achievement and grit.
