A fascinating narrative about the Tarahumara people of Mexico and the sport of ultrarunnning. The author's conclusions about barefoot running were interesting as were the glimpses into the psychology of the runners who seek out such intense experiences. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys stories of athletic achievement and grit.

Super interesting characters and made me feel accepted in this community of weirdo, outdoor adventure extremists that I am realizing I belong in. I didn’t like how the author tended to over-glorify the craziness of some of the characters for the purpose of a driving plot, but I understand in the context of the race and I honestly think some of the characters were that crazy. Loooved the discussion on science of running, humans as endurance species, and history of shoe design, I’m already changing my stride and shoes selection.

I really enjoyed this book. It's really inspiring stuff if you are - like me - a sometime middle-distance runner. Think of all the money I could save on sausages if I could just chase a deer for so long it died of heat exhaustion then sling it over my handlebars and pedal home from Richmond Park. Yes, it's certainly inspiring. Next on my reading list: A deer cookbook.

Awesome awesome awesome book. Loved it.

Fun read! Fascinating information regarding the running shoe industry. And I really enjoyed reading about the Taramuhara Indianas of Mexico and their running culture. I'm not a runner, but after reading this book, I might become one!

For me this book was just ok. It wasn't bad but not one that I had to be reading constantly. I listened to this book while I was working so I couldn't pay 100% attention to it and maybe that's why. I can see why some people would like it but's just not my "cup of tea"

If this book doesn’t make you want to start running or dream of running ultras one day I don’t know what will. I’m barely a week into running, my knee is already killing me, and yet I’m reading this just dying to get back out there. Genuinely inspiring.
