I read this book in a matter of several hours. This book is very character driven and therefore, it is important that the characters in the story are engaging, and readers can connect to them. Thus, it really helped when as a reader, I became very connected emotionally to Emma and Julian. They both were broken but with each other, they slowly are finding their way to take their lives back and to trust again.
Why the topics in this book are tough to discuss and could be triggers for some readers, they are very important topics. It was really good to see Emma stand up and face these issues. She remained strong even when it was hard. I do look forward to reading the second book to this duet to see how it all ends.

I just finished this incredible novel and I'm speechless. This one is not for the fainthearted. It is a book that tells a brutal tale with feeling. Most of the time I couldn't look away. The struggle the protagonist goes through would break many people but she keeps fighting. She wont give up.
Emma is done with her cheating fiance Beaux so she decides to end their engagement. The night she does becomes a night she wont be able to forget. The brutal ending makes Emma weary of anyone. Since Beaux has such a good standing in their community, she feels she must keep quiet and move on. That soon proves to be very difficult. Beaux is everywhere and he wont let go.
The author does an incredible job of making Emma's story come to life for the reader. I was turning pages faster than I usually do and I couldn't let go after I finished. I promise you, this novel will stay with you long after you finish.

Warning: This book contains scenes of rape and murder.
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read the ARC in return for an honest review.
After walking in on her fiancé Beaux and another woman Emma decides to end things. She knew that Beaux would be upset but she never thought he would physically and sexually assault her. She doesn't notify the authories but instead she keeps this awful secret to herself and tries to move on.
While trying to piece her life together she meets the new neighbor Julian and has an instant connection with him. Physical contact with Julian triggers her one day and she knows she can no longer live in silence. Gathering evidence against Beaux she soon realizes that she's in grave danger. Beaux is an high powered attorney and has connections.
This is a story of how one woman puts everything she loves on the line to try to bring down power people while trying to cope with trauma.

The Truth About Unspeakable Things started out as a promising story of strength of survival that opened with a bang. Emma catches her fiancé cheating, and breaks up with him only for him to go into an unexpected fit of rage—and get away with it. Emma doesn’t press charges, even though the cops were involved and she was badly beaten. She doesn’t even admit to her overbearing family that it happened. I didn’t care for how that played out and struggled to relate to or even like Emma throughout the rest of the book.
From there, Emma meets her new neighbor, Julian, a sexy musician and new owner of a local record store, and while she doesn’t want a relationship and is still grappling with her emotions from the abuse she endured nine months earlier, quickly finds herself immersed in him. I’m struggling to explain why, but I didn’t care as much as I wanted to for this storyline...
As a domestic abuse survivor, I expected a hard-hitting survivor’s story and didn’t quite get that. Unfortunately, this book fell a bit flat for me.
I absolutely love the cover and synopsis and I enjoyed the BFF dynamic throughout but didn’t feel that the book met my expectations as a domestic suspense.

Trigger warning: abuse
Oy my. This was an emotional journey. I wanted to hurt so many of the characters for being complete jerks and insensitive. But at the same time I wanted to give hugs to the ones being so compassionate and patient. Survivors of abuse are stronger than anyone I know.

I wasn't sure about this book upon getting it because I'm not big on contemporary romances. The genre just isn't that exciting for me so I usually pass on books that fall into this category. I was curious about it because I thought it would be about a survivor recovering from a traumatic life event that could maybe be relatable. While it did have some of those elements it felt like a mish-mash of emotional hard-hitting shocking story and making light of things too watered it down to keep people from being turned off by it just strickly being an emotional read. I did think the writing was well done but it just really wasn't the book for me, however, I'm sure that anyone that loves contemporary romance will absolutely love this book.

If you asked Emma how she's doing, she'd tell you she's fine. Depending on the day, maybe even good.
But it's all an act. There are things too awful for her to put into words haunting her every day. Her cheating, abusive ex-fiance Beaux had stripped everything from her, and the unspeakable things that happened between them remain hidden. But then she meets Julian - quite literally the new boy next door, and allows herself to wonder if she could ever truly open her heart again after it was broken so violently.
To move forward, Emma needs to face the past and protect her future from the man who threatens to destroy it but in her fight for justice and peace, she finds the world around her is much darker than she ever imagined - and if she doesn't break the silence, nobody will.
"We're all Monsters. We all play a role is someone else's tragic story."
Looking at the cover of this book, it looks a bit like a horror story, right?
Well, that's half right. You won't find any ghosts or ghouls, but the horrors that exist in reality that are infinitely more terrifying. This story is about the monsters we walk past every day, and the blurry lines between a monster and human.
This is not just the story of a strong woman overcoming the traumatic abuse of her past and finding a way to heal, it delves into a darker, thrilling tale of justice and revenge - blistering fast-paced and wickedly clever throughout with an air of mystery and danger lingering over every single page.
Starting slow and quietly, Myers very quickly turns up the heat and the story explodes - mixing the real-life, soul crushing aspects of the story with gritty, cinematic action creating something truly engrossing and captivating. It's messy, but I mean that in an endearing way - there are no neatly tied up endings, not everyone is trustworthy - just like real life
Myers manages to create characters that will make you think so much your head hurts, and whether you agree with them or not, it forces you to reframe the way you see things and consider what revenge, and redemption really meet.
This is a story about all the things we don't say - but that you'll definitely want to talk about.

The synopsis of this book really intrigued me, but unfortunately I was really disappointed. I just felt as though the majority of what happened in the book was so predictable, and when it did happen I felt myself cringing at how unrealistic and forced it felt. Similarly, I felt as though some of the ‘twists’ were just so unnecessary and at times absolutely ridiculous - I appreciate that the author was trying to make links but what should have gave a shock factor just really fell flat for me as it just felt so silly. I also just could not take to Emma’s character at all - I felt as though she was just a real cliche and the same as every other girl in a book where the main character falls in love with someone she feels as though she shouldn’t.
I liked the authors use of flashbacks and the last 20% of the book was definitely a lot stronger than the rest but personally I just didn’t enjoy this book. I’m not a big reader of romance and this might be perfect for somebody who is, but for me it was far too predictable and the characters just didn’t have enough depth to them.

We follow Emma as she addresses her trauma, meets her hunky new neighbour, and goes on to battle her abusive ex, uncovering many dark secrets as she goes.
I was very invested in Emma's story from the start and enjoyed learning more about her and also learning to understand her trauma more. One bit of trauma is apparent from the start, the other comes a little way in.
I really liked how Emma's friendship with her bff Kat was portrayed- I felt it really reflective of real life friendships, and was super supportive and considerate of one another. We love non problematic friendships!
The romance element with Julian was well done and he had a really interesting character - he was just dream boy material.
Beaux was a piece of shit, start to finish but you could really see the hold he still had on Emma and I liked that Myers reveals why he was such a shit human to.
It definitely changed from more of a romance to an uncovering a crime ring thing, but I didn't mind it - it added a bit of excitement to the story, and while some bits were maybe farfetched, others were actually pretty believable.
I do think the author did at points really put her own thoughts and feelings into the novel on certain topics, particularly the abortion element. Particularly topical currently, but I do think the author commentary there could have been dialed down more, whilst still showing how conflicted Emma was about the decision.
Overall an enjoyable cross genre read!

Although this book wasn’t what I was expecting I was hooked from the moment I started reading this book. It was gripping, dark and intense.
I loved Emma, she was such a strong character. The abuse she endured was horrific and we follow her on her journey to recovery.
There are plenty of twists and turns I didn’t know how this was going to end.
This was an amazing debut. I will be reading more from this author as book two is out now so I will be downloading it. Definitely recommend this one.
