The Truth About Unspeakable Things by Emily A Myers was a heartbreaking romantic thriller that kept me on my toes throughout the entire book. I loved every second!
5/5 stars
We are introduced to Emma who has recently found her fiancé in bed with another women. She returns to end things with him, but he puts her in a situation that makes her look like the bad guy.
Emma was a beautiful main character. She was broken, and hurt. She does become fierce, and so strong it makes you fall in love with her 100%. Her story is one I will continue to remember for a long time. Julian... I can’t say enough good things about him. What a great character. What a great love interest. His backstory will keep you wanting more and more. Kat is my kind of best friend. She is incredible, loveable, and such a good support.
The plot of this book was mesmerizing. I couldn’t stop reading! I found myself fully engrossed in all of the intricate layers and subplots that all tied into a plot that was absolutely heartbreaking, but also quite fascinating.
Emily’s writing style is gorgeous. It was very easy to read, but it was also impossible not to imagine the events of the book. The details weren’t overwhelming, but I had a distinct picture in my mind, and it made me love it all the more.
There is a character redemption arc that I’m not spoiling but had me cheering out loud! (Three of them actually, Emily did redemption arcs incredible well for 284 pages.)
This has been recommended to readers of Verity, I agree with that, however I do warn that it is in a complete vein of writing of its own.

Thank you to the author for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Like many other readers, this book what nowhere near what I was expecting from the blurb! I think I would classify it as romantic suspense, but with a strong commentary on the survival of sexual abuse. It's emotional, heartwrenching, and hopeful, and somehow very entertaining at the same time. I really loved the author's writing style and could easily picture the New Orleans setting.
Emma was a great protagonist: strong and resilient, and unwilling to let her ex get away with what he did to her. I couldn't wait to see Beaux get what he deserved.
The plot was fast-paced and enthralling. There were certainly some aspects added for shock value, but I enjoyed that Myers didn't pull any punches when it came to plot.
Myers is definitely a writer to watch after this fascinating debut.

I literally just finished this fabulous debut!!
When @emilymyersauthor reached out to me to see if I would like to review her book, of course it was a hell yes!
This book takes places in New Orleans, where we meet Emma Marshall, who is dealing with the trauma of her past with her ex-fiancé and embarks on a journey of bringing him to justice!
Part thriller, part romance, part social justice issues, this was a fantastic first book that I couldn’t put down. Well developed characters, good writing, and none of the storylines felt rushed.
I will advise that there are trigger warnings for sexual assault and domestic violence.

I had high hopes for this book - the description had me anticipating a heavy, emotional journey, and I do not want to take away from the serious topics (trauma, sexual abuse) but I felt it missed the mark.
I could not figure out what this book was trying to be... a survivors journey to overcome her past trauma & avenge the other people who her abuser also wronged? A love story? A story of family dysfunction? Of high society & the many secrets that come along with that lifestyle? An expose? I felt like the story was all over the place, and the more I read, the less believable it all became.
I would have loved for the story to have been purely focused on Emma and Julian - post Beaux and having them help each other heal after their traumatic experiences.
I loved the friendship between Kat & Emma, I was rooting for Emma + Julian from the start, and I loved having the story set in New Orleans.

This novel was a little bit of a mixed bag for me in regards to whether or not I liked it. There is a lot of good aspects to the novel, but there was some weak spots too. I liked the overall flow to the writing and found it to move along quickly. Certainly the topic was not an easy one to tackle, and I found that it was addressed appropriately. I do wish more time was spent developing Beaux and Emma’s relationship and back story so that the reader could see how they both ended up where they were at the beginning of the story. I know that there was an act of infidelity, but it almost felt a little bit of a throwaway. I enjoyed the relationship between Emma and Julian, but again would have liked to have seen some more development of the characters. Overall my main complaint is that the events and the story felt rushed. I think it had a solid foundation with a great plot line, but I needed a little more detail and character development to flesh it out a bit more.
