This novel started out overwhelmingly good. I was super intrigued by the story itself. Also the chapters being split into 5 acts was a fun touch. And yall know I love a campus novel.

However I thought the murder happened a bit too quickly? Kinda felt like acts 3 and 4 got a little too loosey goosey. But during act 5 I snapped back into attention.

Not entirely sure this is a 4 star book for me — maybe a 3.75 but eh I’m being indecisive

It’d been a good while since I cried this hard because of a book. Thank you M.L. Rio for ruining my life (and providing me with the motivation needed to finally start reading Shakespeare).

Remember when YA media had this stint where everything was set at a performing arts school? Remember when the theater kids were considered weird/cringe in those movies? Do you like how theater teachers consistently cross professional boundaries and exploit/abuse their students? Do you enjoy how seriously theater kids take themselves? Look no further. Here you go.

(in my opinion) This book is absolutely devastating, and I would lie if I said I didn't cry reading it. Still, I'd say it's one of my favorites so far, it's written in a way that makes you want to read it forever and the story and characters are so intricate and komplex like the mystery at hand. If I said anything else I might make this a spoiler, so I'll stop here.

Realistically I would rate this book 5/5 stars but the last Act distresses me to no end. Yes, it makes sense dramaturgically (haha). Yes, I know that just because the curtains were coming down didn’t mean Oliver and his friend, roommate, more than friend would make it out unscathed. I need concrete evidence that James isn’t hiding away in Del Norte, waiting for Oliver to find him; otherwise I don’t think I can ever rest in peace.
