Beautiful and tragic, moved me to tears. My best read of the year, one of my new favorites of all time.

To quote Hadestown:
“It's a sad song
It's a sad tale, it's a tragedy
It's a sad song
But we sing it anyway”

Okay. So we have the Secret History but instead of the Classics, we have a bunch of theater kids who can quote Shakespeare better than any twenty-one year old would ever be able to. I thought the plot and the writing were good, but if you took out all of the quoted Shakespeare half the book would be missing.

For anyone who loves mysteries, shakespeare, and the world of theater. This is a book with high stakes and lovable characters that you become invested in.

This book is a conundrum to review.

On the one hand, the book and it’s characters are engaging, intriguing, and very clever. On the other hand, some of the twists became fairly obvious, and I don’t know if everything about the book earned its final twist—which was a huge gut punch.

And really, speaking of the end and its twist,
maybe I’m too much of a romance girlie but like, we’re seriously having Oliver *with Meredith* again? There’s no resolution or reunion between him and James, after everything? That’s… so frustrating!

I did like this book, though, even if I didn’t love the final execution. So the final 3.25 rating feels fair!
