“Her own family was a restaurant booth—you could always scoot in and make space for one more. Cord’s family was a table with chairs, and those chairs were bolted to the floor.”

This was a book club read and my least favorite of the ones chosen so far this year.

~Cons

This felt like a paint by numbers ‘Rich people don’t appreciate anything until they do’ drama. If this book were a scenario from the AITA (Am I the @$$hole) subreddit, the answer would be ESH (Everyone Sucks Here).

I didn’t care for any of the characters. Everyone was terrible in their own way. And the ‘growth’ the characters experience by the end is mostly superficial.

~Pros?

The characters were believably distinct with their own quirks and personalities traits and the world building was realistic. It was also a quick and easy read.

Final Thought:

There’s some kinda ruckus on Pineapple Street and you can either close the curtains or watch the meh-lodrama unfold.

This book would have been 100% better if the house had burned down at the end.

book #3 from my personal shelves. this was a good, light-hearted read overall, but it felt like it leaned too heavily on tropes and stereotypes. it was nice for a relaxing, fun little read with meh writing. also, it felt like it really praised wealthy people who choose to donate a small portion of their money and dismisses the idea that they could also work on addressing the systems that make this money so essential to other people. i feel like the author also tried too hard to relate to younger readers

It was a good, quick read. Kind of mindless with unreal plot resolution, but it satisfied a reading itch and I liked the writing style, so I was excited to pick it up to read.
