novelization of the first episode. nothing special, which is why it doesn't have five stars, but I gave it four because the first episode is great so.. yep.

a novelization of the first two buffy episodes. though i've seen it many times this was still fun to read. everything is more detailed and i love richie's writing style, plus she actually made me feel bad for luke :(

It was a pretty fun novelisation. The story is obviously great. Some of the dialogue works much better spoken than it does written. There are also a few instances where it's quite obvious that it's been adapted from a screenplay (sometimes one step away from describing a camera angle) but overall it's fun.

It's Buffy! How can you go wrong?

I read the French translation as practice. It was reasonably good, although sometimes the witty dialogue didn't quite translate, both as a translation into French, and as a translation onto a page as opposed to on a screen. But still, the story itself was good, and it was nice to read it as a novel rather than just rewatching the beloved episode.

The Harvest is exactly like the first two episodes of BtVS, and it was nice to read instead of watch!

It is what it is. In this case, a novelization of the first 2 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which is a pretty solid pilot, by the way).

The dialogue is taken directly from the show, so all the wit and Joss Whedon-ess remains intact. The narration, however, is very shallow and awkwardly paced at times (especially in the beginning). Not recommended if you haven't seen the pilot but not entirely recommended if you've seen it either, since you won't really learn any backstory or read the thoughts of the character.

It simply does what the basis of what a novelization is supposed to do: Turn visual storytelling into a passable work of literature.

This is the first book in the original novels from the 90s that went along with the Buffy TV show. This first one is a novelization of the episode with the same name, this is the first episode of the show. I thought it was enjoyable, written really well. I love the tv show so remembered what had happened it was still fun to read though. I'm looking forward to reading the original novels.
