I absolutely adored this book. OH MY GOSH! The way the last book left off and this one started I was so excited to jump in. It’s just so well written and it feels realistic too. Like the way Heather wrote such deep feeling and relatable emotions into these character was perfection.

Now it did keep me entertained throughout, some of the plot I did NOT see coming, other parts I did. I was theorising the whole way, because there was so many gosh darn twists and turns! I love the imps they were adorable and hilarious. I loved the coming together of all the different mistreated species to form the dark court. It definitely gave found family vibes, but like every family it wasn’t without its flaws. I liked the tension between the characters. You could feel Alyce battling with her feelings every step of the way.

This duet was absolute addictive and i thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants a sapphic, fairytale retelling that almost virals the original, because it was written in such a refreshing way!

slow-paced

This one of those Duologies where both books are amazing but in completely different ways. Malice was full of that youthful feeling of first love, coming of age and self discovery. It also is a very Alice and Aurora against the world with Aurora becoming a catalyst for Alice's emergence into someone who feels worthy and strong. The majority of the book is full of the naive notion the love can conquer anything. The ending, though sad, still centers around protecting that love.

Misrule is an amazing follow-up that explores what happens when growth and change someone you love into someone new. It shakes the foundation of Alice and Aurora's relationship, exploiting just how unstable it is. It is that moment when all the euphoria and newness fades and you are faced with all the imperfections and shortfallings. Does true love really exists and if it does is it enduring?

There are so many things to love about Misrule. Unlike Malice, the romantic relationship isn't the most prevalant and pressing concern in the book. It is important and has a large role but it isn't the component that dictates all the decisions and motivations of the two women.

This Duology is more than worth a read.
