I just wasn't connecting with the characters anymore. This is a slog. It should have been a standalone.

I love this series, and the last 100 pages of this book just brought it to another level. Safe to say I cried a lot, happy and sad tears.

3 stars. I really enjoyed book one. I didn’t love it but it was enjoyable and the ending had me looking forward to book two and to see how everything would wrap up. Needless to say it didn’t deliver unfortunately.

While the writing is absolutely gorgeous, this book could’ve been cut down by at least 150 pages or so because this was insanely dry. There was a lot of moments that didn’t move the plot along at all and left the book at a standstill. Also, the characters felt so different here. I didn’t like it. Primarily Aurora. She was super annoying in this. The romance was a dud as I didn’t feel the chemistry here between Alyce and Aurora. It was just a mess.

A lot of the twists and reveals were very predictable but there were a few that landed for me. I also did like some of the new characters. The last 15% was pretty good as well. Overall, this was an okay ending to this duology but I will read whatever Walter writes next.

i don't know how to feel about this book.

there were some parts that i found really interesting. i enjoyed reading about the contemplation and conversation around revenge and how long someone can act horribly in the name of revenge before they become the perpetrator. i also liked a lot of the side characters.

but there were other parts that i really disliked. this was supposed to be a romance, but honestly i was rooting for the characters to not get together for most of the book, which sucks considering i loved them together in the first book.
