Thank you to netgalley and random house for letting me review this book!

Sapphic fantasy fairytale retelling!!? I’ve never wanted to read anything more and I was so excited to be able to read this book. And not surprisingly it was 100% as good as I expected! I’m such a sucker for morally grey characters and I loved that element. I found alyce to be so relatable. Her journey of learning to love herself and be ok with who she was really done well. It’s the reason she was my favorite character. I also really enjoyed the ending. I loved this book!!

Up until the last chapter and a half of this book, 4.5 stars! But I was actually genuinely disappointed and frustrated with parts of the ending and it dropped the rating down to 3. After everything Alyce and Aurora have been through, that ending and epilogue were very aggravating!

Wow what an incredible sequel!
I loved being back in the world of Malice and couldn't wait to see what happened next after Alyce sought her revenge on the people of Briar after the sleeping curse was put on Princess Aurora. I loved everything about this story; the creation of the Dark Court, the new characters and the amazing descriptions of the new world which really helped me to imagine it all.
This is a brilliant sequel full of excitement, battles, angst and so much more!

Misrule reads much differently than Malice, but I did really like the ending to this series. While the first was much more romantic and cheering on Alyce, this one is a lot more frustrating because you watch her consistently making terrible decisions. I think the frustration is a sign of good writing, though. I'd read it again.

It was a good fast paced book but I just didn’t like it as much as I thought I would.

Only the last 50 pages were of any interest to me. This half of the story was full of untold wars and new characters that weren't developed or given any background. I was less than interested, and just wanted to get to the end.

Overall story was good. I liked the second half of the book better. Everytime I picked up the book in the first half I had to struggle to read. I want to keep reading at about 70% mark. Nice conclusion to story

I think there was too much time for me in between these books which made it harder to enjoy this as much as I may have. Although the sequel (MISRULE) takes place an entire century after the events of the first book, I struggled to reconnect with the characters and the world at large. Alyce’s plight was understandable (battling between what is right morally vs. what feels right when it comes to seeking revenge) but it felt meandering and repetitive at times with some of the story beats. The will-they-won’t-they between Alyce and Aurora didn’t tug at the heartstrings in this installment like it did for me in the first book. Regardless, I did enjoy the ending and it felt like the author succeeded in wrapping up the story in a way that felt right.
