I loved getting to read skin so when I heard skins was coming I had to pick it up and read it. I’ve been intrigued and wanting to know more since reading skin . I loved getting more details and loved how crazy and distributing this read was .

Utterly repulsive, in the best way!

I cannot recommend Audrey Rush books enough!! I’ve said this a million times, but I’ll say it again, more people need to read Audrey Rush!

As a huge fan of Audrey Rush’s works I could not pass up the opportunity to arc read this book. I even got one of my friends to sign up for the arc as well.

I read the original short story early this year and was absolutely obsessed with Teddy’s depraved story, but this full length re-release is even better! Audrey never misses!

This book is definitely a very tough read and I found myself needing breaks. The women are treated completely as objects and most of the time don’t even have names.

Audrey’s stories always fill me with the most conflicted feelings and this book is no exception. Horror, and disgust are of course the main ones, but also a weird loyalty, especially towards Teddy since he’s the OG. But when reading Chase’s chapters I couldn’t help but feel empathy towards him, although that was crushed rather quickly. The harvest section might be my favorite, probably because I’m a dark romance girly at heart. I ate up the Chase chapters so quick and I might still slightly feel for him in the end lol.

The Farm section terrifies me the most honestly. Also just like with reading Morsel I’m both glad and horrified to be a vegetarian. This entire section made my stomach churn, especially the eyes and baby stuff. I had to take the most breaks with this one.

Little bit of a spoiler here, but I do kinda wish it was shown more about what happened with Pets ears just because I’m curious to know if he made her completely deaf or not (not that this even matters to the story).

I was so excited to see that we got more of the Founder! I couldn’t help but want to know more about his story as soon as he was mentioned in the Skin short story. He is such an interesting character! A true psychotic businessman through and through!

I truly love to hate him.

It’s also interesting how already connected all the characters seem to be outside of the company. “The world is smaller than we realize…” as the Founder has said.

Overall this was a roller coaster of a read and I never knew what to expect next. With each new introduced character came more atrocities that I never would have expected.

P.S the little Kent moments are everything!!

Wow what a book.
I've never read anything like this and maybe that's a good thing. I don't think I'd have been ready before.

Skins is a collection of stories from different perspectives that are interconnected and paint a picture so dark and depraved it's fascinating in a way that feeds the darkest abyss of the human mind.
I buddy-read it with @Stormbornbookshelf and she said it exactly right in her review: it builds up slowly and continuously crosses new limits.

It's a true, ingenious horror book and what makes it such is the fact that, while a lot of it was shocking, I believe every shocking action in this book could happen in real life. well, apart from the fact that the entire book revolves around the perfection of dolls I don't know would actually work, but I didn't even really question it during the read because of how well it was written.

I have an immense respect for Audrey Rush - I can only guess the amount of research that needs to go into a book like this and I can imagine a lot of it gets unpleasant real quick. Not to mention that the browser history must be the horror of every FBI agent.

Skins definitely took me past my own limits and into a world that is dark, beyond depraved and frighteningly intriguing to read about. I still regularly think about it, that's for sure.

Apart from the content and plot, I also really like Audrey Rush's writing style. She creates an intricate underbelly of our world, not sugar-coating or brushing over anything while also never giving us more than necessary. It won't be my last book of her, that much is for sure.

Before you pick up Skins, regardless of how dark your usual reads, please make sure you read the trigger warnings and are aware of what you're getting into.

Wow just wow

I have been so intimidated to branch off from my regualar unhinged dark romance into the horror genre....mostly due to the assumed "gore" but I was so pleasantly surprised and I'm so glad I got a digital arc to this and it smashed my expectations.

I love everything unhinged and taboo...and this was all of those things...please check your trigger warning this book follows some extreme themes and view points...leave your feminism at the door.

Audrey Rush is an amazing author who manages to convince you that the worlds she creates are utterly and unbelievable real and visceral. In this book she rides a fine line of shock and awe that have you coming away with the fabric of my brain changed.

The story was both horrifying and repulsive, yet I found it incredibly engaging and couldn't help but keep reading. The author has this knack for making me feel uneasy while still compelling me to dive deeper into the book, and I’d definitely rate it five stars. I’m not sure how to explain the plot without giving too much away, but I really hope a blurb gets added soon. Essentially, it revolves around a group of men at a company that produces "pure dolls," with each section focusing on a different character before switching to the next. It's equally disturbing and twisted. It’s a fantastic horror read, but now I’m craving something lighter and non-horror.

This is definitely not for the faint of heart! This is my first time reading anything by Audrey, not for lack of not wanting to, and let me tell you, reading this just moved Morsel and My Girl so far up on my list. I don't know what it says about me that I found every piece of this book so erotic, but you know what? We don't judge here, and if you do, bye.
I love the face that it's 5 different short stories, all told by 5 different people, but it all ties into the same story line. Audrey did such an amazing job with all of it.

I have nobody but myself to blame for what I read lmao did the original book of Skin traumatize me? Yes. Did I still read this one? Absolutely. Audrey makes me cringe and want to bleach my brain sometimes and I absolutely love her books for this. Really tests your limits. I was done for once it started mentioning maggots. That was the end of my sanity hahaha 10/10 though

*I’m not going to give you the ‘what this book is about’ blurb – you can read that elsewhere.

1. I read Audrey’s first go at this concept ‘Skin’ back in August of 2023 and I wanted MORE. So, when I saw she had expanded the Founder’s sick little world to include perspectives from different employees and additional information on the company, I knew I needed to read this right away. I was not disappointed.

2. ‘Skin’ is included, with some expansion, as Teddy’s portion of the story. When I originally read Teddy’s story I thought that it was an amazing concept, but there were some parts that I felt could have been fleshed out a bit more. Some areas, in my opinion, needed a bit more context to fully make sense, and that’s exactly what I got with this book. All the questions that had been hanging out there for me were answered in full brutality.

3. The Founder is absolutely terrifying. The whole idea that with enough money and enough corrupt people on your side, you can do anything, makes me cringe. Perhaps, because this whole book gives current-time vibes. It doesn’t feel like this is that far off with such a weirdly large and loud portion of the population clearly believing women are only here for men’s pleasure and not to have any of their own personality, thoughts, or bodily autonomy.

4. This is horror – I’d say there’s enough of a statement to be categorized as Splatterpunk, but if not, it leans toward the Extreme. It’s not quiet cozy horror, so make sure you check the content warnings and are comfortable with everything inside.
