Would pair well with a middle school favorite, [b:Out of My Mind|6609765|Out of My Mind|Sharon M. Draper|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347602096l/6609765._SX50_.jpg|6803732]. A gentle story about a girl living with cerebral palsy who moves with her mother to Oklahoma to take care of her grandparents. Life in a small trailer is challenging enough but Ellie is also wheelchair bound. Ellie has never had true friends but makes two quick and quirky friends in Coralee and Bert, also from the trailer park. As school begins, she is pleasantly surprised to find out that kids at her new school aren't looking at her funny because she is in a wheelchair but because she is from "Trailerland."

The story is full of heart. Grades 5 and up.

Another great book. Ive been loving reading these juvenile fiction books on WI’s Elementary Battle of the Book Lists. Such great storylines- lots of different family relationships to unpack, friendships, navigating middle school, and more. I laughed out loud and teared up during this book. Fantastic. I’m sure I’ll read the second one at some point too.

This is a wonderful book about friendship, fitting in and the realistic struggles of a person with different abilities. My daughter and I were delighted by the book and grew to love Ellie and her friends.

Yes. Yes. Read this book. It’s real. It’s vivid. It’s not all happy endings. It’s happyandsadandannoyingandsilly. It’s life. Life with discrimination.

Good realistic fiction about a girl with cerebral palsy who has to move to a new town and make new friends. Recommended for kids in grades 4+ who want stories similar to Wonder.
