Read this before putting in my classroom for my older kids to read and thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up on Jacqueline Wilson and this felt very nostalgic. Lots of difficult topics handled well. JW is amazing at capturing the past and this felt both authentic and shocking to compare to the modern day.

When I heard Jacqueline Wilson was writing a book for older readers I just knew I had to get my hands on a copy and reading this book reminded me of why I loved Jacqueline Wilson’s books whilst I was growing up.

However, even though it is for older readers, I could tell whilst reading that the writing style was still a bit young for me but I still enjoyed it.

I love the resilience of Laura and Nina’s character made me think of some of the girls I used to go to school with.

Overall, a good read and insight into what life was like for young mums in the 60’s

Aww, I liked this. When I ordered it I thought it was for older readers and then realised that meant 13-17 so I was a bit out of the range, but I still enjoyed it. Jacqueline is timeless, and I loved her so much when I was younger it made me feel so nostalgic to read her again. All of her books are quite the same, but they still give you a warm feeling inside. But at the same time, this book was incredibly sad, for everyone involved
I’m glad Laura got her happy ending eventually though.
