This was a fun, quick read. I'll admit that it reminded me very strongly of Firefly mixed maybe with Star Trek, and the characters were quirky and entertaining! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and definitely look forward to more of the series.

I didn't understand some of the science that the book had, so I skimmed over a bit of that, but aside from the science this was an easy read that I managed to get done in less than a day. The author has definitely captured my attention!

There's plenty of drama, action/adventure, romance, and fun all around to be had. There ate secrets, government issues, clones, and people eat bugs in space. Lots of adventure to be had here!

I highly recommend it.

4.8/5 stars!

All you can do, Rosemary - all any of us can do - is work to be something positive instead. That is a choice that every sapient must make every day of their life. The universe is what we make of it. It's up to you to decide what part you will play.

Some may say I've been playing a little fast and loose with the five star ratings lately, but it's not my fault I have impeccable reading taste...

This book has been one of the most relaxed reads I've had in a long time. Despite the dangers of the journey it reminded me of why I fell in love with Sci-fi like Star Trek, so I can picture a future where everything doesn't suck. It can be a little corny, yes, but when all these wholesome things come together in a story I can't help but be enamoured by it. Becky Chambers lovingly crafted a universe full of wonder and joy despite all the sorrows and pain that peppers it. As much as I love realism and dark storytelling, it made me appreciate the lightness of this story a hell of a lot more

A thoroughly enjoyable space adventure, with a colourful and fun cast of characters and an exciting and easy-to-follow plot. The highlight of this novel for me was definitely reading about all the different species and their cultures. I also loved how character driven the story was - every character felt well thought out and unique, like real people. Can't wait to pick up the sequel!
