The mix of authors and prose/verse really worked for me. Each sister had their own distinct voice, and I looked forward to each perspective rather than favoring a few.

This was an incredibly inventive reimagining of Little Women that I absolutely enjoyed. With each of the March sisters being written by a different author, I initially feared that the story would seem a little disjointed as the POV changed from chapter to chapter, but it was a beautifully crafted collaboration. I especially loved how, while exploring some heavy topics that were never addressed in Louisa May Alcott’s original novel, sisters Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy did not stray from their initial characterizations in the literary classic.

The only reason I give this book four rather than five stars has more to do with my personal preference. While the stories of Meg, Jo, and Amy were written in prose form, Beth’s added POV was written in verse. Inserted at the end of each chapter, I found myself skimming or skipping over them completely about halfway through the book. Not that they weren’t well written, I’m just rarely drawn to verse without rhyme. I realize some would consider that to be a fault on my part as a reader, but it doesn’t prevent me from highly recommending this book.

Thank you to the authors along with Random House Children’s, Delacorte Press, and NetGalley for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review.

Ok I’ll be honest.

I think I just would have liked a book focused on Amy and Laurie. Mostly because Amy’s storyline was the most interesting in terms of her sneaking off to serve in the Red Cross. It honestly would have been better if it had been more serious and her relationship with Laurie had been written with more depth. Still, it was the best part of the book for me.

Which actually is pretty bad because Little Wome is supposed to be about the bond between the sisters.

I think in this case, the premise of the retelling during WW2 was super clever. But the fact that each sister was written by different authors actually hurt the endeaver.

Jo, Meg, and Amy were estranged the entire book. They didn’t even reunite at the end.. which literally.. what??! In thst case, just give me a more in depth story abt Amy and Laurie. I would just age up Amy, keep her in London, and put Laurie in some real danger. Throw in a but more drama and romance and it would potentially be *chef’s kiss*

But seriously bummed that this was not the retelling I was wanting. I had been waiting for the release too. Sigh.
