No sé si no me gusta o si me encanta.

This book I read in Kindle. And it was one of the best books I've read in a very long time!

A unique idea for a story. I loved this book despite being angry about several of the plot points and the way the characters behaved. That said, I can understand why they made the choices they did, especially the pivotal character in the story.

This is a haunting read that will stay with you long after you read it. The desert descriptions are vivid and beautiful, yet the book reads as a page-turner. I found it hard to put down and would get frustrated when I had to stop reading for the night. I won't reiterate the blurb here, and don't want to give away any spoilers. I'll just say this could shape up to be one of my favorite reads for 2018.

I was just not impressed by this book. While the premise of the story was intriguing, the characterization was ridiculous. I won't give spoilers for those who want to read the book, but the daughters were inane. Just because they lived in isolation didn’t warrant their behaviors. I just finished Giants in the Earth that includes families growing up isolated on the prairie in the 1800’s and while mental illness prevailed the characters were not silly. The twins in this story drove me crazy. The author had them repeating each other incessantly and reading the dialogue annoyed me. I sort of understand the conflicted emotions and motives, but the entire story just grated on me. Plus, unless I missed it, what happened to Edelweiss is never explained. I wish I had my time back on this one. At least I think I got the book as an Amazon First or Kindle deal so it was free or very inexpensive.

5+ stars. Amazing. Paul Penn is an incredible writer and I was so sucked into the story of dessert flowers. Light of the fireflies is great too. His stories just seem so original and suspenseful.
