Reasonably gripping for a novel where very little actually happens. A lot of big brain philosophising and monologuing that doesn’t quite go anywhere, but it sure is entertaining.

I actually think that this was a lot more compelling than The Atlas Six, and I think that’s because I never really cared for any of the characters so I appreciate that this book didn’t rly try to force me to give a fuck, in a sense. Tbh most/all relationship moments felt p rushed and the Parisa Nico thing especially did not need to happen. The weird focus on a need to love in previously amoral characters was also a bit of a turn off, but I think the one dimensionality of some of these characters (criticised by other reviewers) helped sell the book, actually. The wonders of traditional publishing.

I think what I want from this trilogy is just “people talking smart and tension constantly building”, and I think this book does that very well. I’m not looking for high art here and idt anyone should be as well.
