This picks up pretty much immediately where the atlas six ended which I appreciated a lot because that ending was intense! I had high hopes that things would continue to progress quickly but that was definitely not the case. I feel like this book could have been 150 pages shorter - every scene and conversation took way too long. I felt like nothing important to the plot actually happened until around 75% through the book. As soon as everything picked up I was right back into the story and so invested in what was happening... It just took a while to get there.

I'm so conflicted with this series because there's so many aspects I like ( the characters, the magic system, the dynamics) but the pacing is just all over the place. I'm planning on reading the next book because I rly wanna see how everything unfolds. I just hope it's more action packed than the first two books.

I felt like this one suffered from middle book syndrome. The first one took awhile to get into, but once it hit its stride, it was great. This one waxed and waned between being interesting and then abruptly switching back to 'put me to sleep' boring. It had a few very interesting nuggets that kept me plugged in, but for the most part, I was trudging through.

I'm invested in where the overall idea of the story is going, and I like some of the character development we saw in this installment. I also enjoyed getting to see much more of Gideon and having him play such an instrumental role! The way his storyline intersected with the society was interesting, and Libby's journey throughout was extremely entertaining. I was disappointed because there were some relationships I enjoyed that were built up in the first book, and in this one they were all, basically, torn apart or swapped. It was just too much for me at times.

I still want to read the third one when it comes out because I really want to see where it goes, but this one took a lot of time and attention.

DID NOT FINISH: 50%

Will try again later. It was super boring, and like listening to people just ramble with no real focus.

loved the indepth characters; their personalities, quirks and self-absorded views are incredibly well crafted and described.
