Bonus points for including Staten Island. Minus points for non Staten Islander insulting Staten Island. Even though the portrayal of Staten Island was accurate in many ways, I can't give 5 stars because somehow I still have an ounce of pride for Staten Island and didn't enjoy becoming characterized as the evil one. For some reason hoped Staten Island would have a happy ending. Not sure how many people from Staten Island would ever pick up this book, but would be curious to know how other Staten Islanders felt reading this book. Loved the Broken Earth trilogy and still enjoyed this book (despite the lack of love for Staten Island).

I wanted to like this more, because I loved Nemisin's Broken Earth -series. However, I just found myself indifferent about the characters most of the time. I won't continue to the sequel.

holy crap!!! what a JOURNEY!!!!!

first of all. wow i have no words. i have no words!!! i actually dont, this book was SO good. nk jemisin WOWWWWW i seriously need to read everything she has now!!!!

i honestly don't even WANT to say too much about this book because you kind of go into it not knowing much, and part of the AWESOME journey is unraveling the mysteries along the way. it's probably why this book was SO hard to put down. i just needed to know. i needed to know!!!! um wow. that's all holy crap this was such a good, good book. like, world building doesn't even BEGIN to explain what jemisin did here. it was so much more... she's... a genius!!!! highly recommend!!
