A really interesting mystery but sadly wrapped in text that got too bogged down in self-righteousness
Made it a fifth of the way in and I don't think I'll ever finish it. So far the entire fifth has been a litany of NYC locations and features and I'm guessing what are inside references/jokes? I know odes to a city can be done in an appealing and approachable way to non-locals, but this isn't it, and the incidental fantasy plot didn't catch me.

I've heard this book described as a love letter to New York, and yeah. This book did such a great job of understanding the nuance of the boroughs and using this nuance to create a complex sci-fi fantasy.
It took me a while to get into this book, though I'm not sure how much of that was the text vs. my reading slump, I did enjoy taking this book slowly.
I'm intrigued to see where the series is going from here as there were so many interesting concepts explored and the threat was greater than I was initially anticipating.
