Well that was heckin good 0_0 dang sis, go off

reading this was like watching a suspenseful crime/mystery short film and it gave me big brain energy. I was pushing up my anime glasses while putting together the f a c t s . I love the ambiguous ending, even if an unambiguous one might've been better or more satisfying (but it do be contemporary drama and they love ambiguity). I'll probably watch the movie soon lol this was goodddd

Wow I just finished writing a paper for class regarding this book and human rights and I kept reading some of the passages and they're just SO GOOD. I can just imagine how amazing it would be in person.

A very intriguingly written play that launches you into what seems to be an absurd situation that, we come to find, is actually much more realistic than it seems at face value. Serves an interesting role as a commentary on trauma, war, authoritative regimes (and regime changes) and makes you think about things you may not have considered about family, life, politics, and other people.

Personally, I was a bit turned off by the way the absurdity in dialogue and interaction was constructed. I can’t fully explain it, but it just felt…forced? Like it was pursuing absurdity for no real reason when it didn’t need to be and, quite possibly, would’ve benefitted from its avoidance in many sections. However, the plot was still intriguing and the characters were interesting, although they themselves (aside from, maybe, Paulina) also felt a bit underdeveloped. If half stars were available, I’d give it 3.5, but 4 is a bit too much for me. Would still recommend reading this to anyone who enjoys drama and/or the absurd.

Scenario: I'm currently in tech for All My Sons (a fairly intense, dark script). As yesterday was Monday, it was our night off, so naturally I had another rehearsal for our next script reading: this one.

An intense, dark script on my night off from an intense, dark show.

Fabulous.

For a cast of only three people (and 60-some pages), there's a LOT in this. And it's A Lot. I think this one better lends itself to performance, considering all the stage directions which, in a reading, have the distinct possibility of taking the wind out of the actors' sails a bit, when they need to be thrown in between the highly-charged chunks of dialogue.

Phenomenal book. Read it in one sitting, on the edge of my seat.

A friendly stranger helps you with his car. You invite friendly stranger. Your wife recognises "friendly stranger" as the man who was involved her rape/torture. Who do you believe? The friendly stranger or the traumatic wife?
Death and the Maiden refers to the quartet composed by Schubert with quick allusions in the play. It was a really short play, barely took a day to read. I really enjoyed the perception of truth and belief presented in the play. It was an enjoyable quick read, analysing it is also a bit more deeper than the story. It's not JUST about what happens to Roberto, it's a matter of reasoning and lies. The themes are pretty easy to catch on, and the play was pretty amazing in my opinion. Short and too the point but with a large meaning.

I found the play version of post-dictatorship justice to be fascinating. Maybe because I've been really involved with Chile's transitional justice in general and this was a new framework and from much earlier in the democratization. A really quick read. Read it for a grad school class on transitional justice and our discussion mostly focused on the power and motifs of the three characters and the way they represent the competing points of view in transition.
