I wasn't fully satisfied with this book—it was my least favorite of the series—but overall, it was a satisfying ending to a great series.

3.5 stars. Satisfying end to the series, but not my favorite.

5 stars overall for the series. I only took off a star here because this one was a little repetitive and I hated the long separation (again!), but I enjoyed this series so much and can definitely see myself rereading it. I loved all of the characters’ journeys but especially the development of Noemi and Abel and their relationship. Claudia Gray’s writing is all so perfectly layered and thoughtful. She has become one of my favorite modern authors!

I enjoyed this book, but on reflection I feel like I mostly enjoyed it because I got so attached to the main characters after reading the first book. If I think back to the actual plot of this one, I'm not that excited. It was good, but a bit predictable and repetitive. It felt a lot like the previous two books did, and because it was repeating the same beats a bit, it felt a bit stale and the stakes didn't feel very high.

I had thought the changes to Noemi would impact the story more than they did.
Spoiler she has some internal conflict about being part mech and has a few issues because of it that serve as obstacles in the plot, but overall I felt like she got over it way faster than I expected and it didn't add as much as I wanted it to.

I also didn't really love that some of the plot was driven by miscommunication and Abel thinking things he probably shouldn't be thinking anymore in the third book. It felt like the conflict wasn't very natural for the point they were at in their relationship.

I still enjoyed the book and had fun seeing how it ended up, but I feel like neither of the sequels came near the first one in terms of plot. I'm not sure if this needed to be a trilogy.
