I loved this whole series. Dark and sexy. But I won't even list all the trigger warnings that should be included. Worth a read if you can handle it.

I love anything Helena Hunting writes and I knew I had to read these from her collection next. This was a lot darker than her other stories, but I thought the heavy topics were handled really well. Tenley and Hayden both have a lot of heavy baggage and I liked watching them be vulnerable with each other. The cupcake theme was super cute and I liked that it was something they could bond over. This was also an emotional book, I felt so much while reading about what happened to both characters and it just made me root for their love story even more. The beginning took a smidge for me to get into, but once things started being revealed, I was fully invested. Helena has a specialty for characters and I really liked these two. I'm definitely excited to see how more of the story unfolds in book two and can't wait for tenley and Hayden to work everything out and really open up to each other.

DNF'ed at about 50% through. The narration was horrible. May read at a later date.

4 stars. Color me impressed. This book was the perfect balance of angst and drama. It wasn’t too angsty to the point where it just pissed me off and the drama wasn’t too over the top to the point where I was laughing at inappropriate emotional moments (which I am known to do. oops) so that was great.

I had no expectations going into this book. I didn’t look at reviews, I just picked it up and went for it because I didn’t want to put any pressure on it. That was probably the best decision and I felt like I was able to enjoy it more for what it is.

I really liked Helena Hunting’s writing style. The voices of both characters were so distinct and I really felt and empathized with the the both of them. Talk about tragic, horrible back stories.

I really liked Hayden and Tenley as a couple. I thought there relationship, while a bit on the co-dependent/coping mechanism side it totally worked here. I felt that intense connection between them. It was genuine and raw and beautiful and heartbreaking. I liked both of them as characters as well. Hayden more so over Tenley but she was great as well. It’s just that Hayden has all of those tattoos and the piercings! Sweet jeebus the piercings! his junk is pierced!! i dieddddddddddd Also doesn’t hurt that he was such a sweet heart under that ‘bad boy’ exterior. Definitely a new book boyfriend.

I’m giving this 4 stars because I am honestly sick and damn tired of characters and their unnecessary secrets. Lay all of that shit on the table up front and save me all the extra bs. It’s annoying because it always leads to the annoying third act break up which is the bane of my entire existence. That’s a trope I can do the rest of my life without.

Other than that, this was a surprisingly good read. The ending was great and I can’t wait to see how their story wraps up.

What an emotional roller coaster! I really couldn't put this book down. Two very fragile people trying to navigate life after horrific tragedy. The whole time I was pulling for one of them to have a moment of clarity where they could just PLEASE see what was standing right in front of them. There is so much agony pushing against them, but I just know they can focus their energy to make things work.
I look forward to book two (and the two planned Novella's)

This book was a lovely surprise, but it kind of broke my heart.
