Having read (and enjoyed) Rainbow Six, I was disappointed that I was unable to make it through this book without getting distracted/disinterested multiple times.
Lots of technical jargon that I didn't understand and didn't find interesting enough to research. Unlike other tech-heavy books (The Martian comes to mind) I wasn't able to gloss over the lingo and enjoy the narrative.
Full disclosure: only finished roughly 50%, but not for lack of trying.

a spy novel based on cold war.
Clancy certainly knew how to write an exciting Cold War political intrigue book.

I'm about 40 years late to this party, and frankly, I could've waited another 40.
While I still stand by the fact that the premise/ idea of this book is very interesting, I was completely overwhelmed with the technical jargon, and I had a very hard time keeping track of everything. It got to a point where I just had to give myself to pick the book up daily, which is never good. I know many love it, I'm just not one of them.

Dude I can't keep putting up with how slow this is.
Decent enough book that has held up remarkably well over time. Not really into all of the details on the military stuff so I got a bit bored with it.
Sooooo slow. I couldn’t bring myself to care about pages of submarine parts.
