I’ve been waiting to read Zach’s story since book one. He’s so sweet and quiet, with a traumatic past (religious cult). Lark also has a traumatic past and I loved watching them deal with their pasts and grow as a couple.

Oh. My. God. ZACHARIAH ❤️ Just stunning. So so so so good. You know that vibe that you got with Zach being the sweet, cute virgin through the first books and how you couldn't wait to see how adorably awkward he would be when he fell? Ya, this book 1000% delivers on it and it's the damn cutest thing I've read in a long time.

I'm a unicorn who likes my book boyfriends to be sweet, adorable, and a bit inexperienced. I want them to be nervous and exploratory and not confident and cocky. Add in the total dorkiness that is Zach + his ability to empathize and handle his girls trauma and you have my perfect man.

3.5 stars. I went back and forth with how to rate this one because I loved some bits, didn't like others...I wish we could do half stars.

This was a sweet story. Nothing super remarkable. I always enjoy the family dynamics in the True North world which is why I continue reading the story. I enjoy seeing each of the main characters finding their true loves and there is often a hints of harder-hitting elements as well which adds a bit more substance.

I liked this one - a couple things in particular bumped this up to 4 stars for me.

The heroine is dealing with ptsd after being kidnapped in Guatemala. She’s struggling with nightmares and flashbacks. Instead of having her magically healed by love - she saw doctors and had treatment. Yes yes yes.

When the h and H reunite unexpectedly - as they are heading to the bedroom she says go ahead and I’ll be right there. When he finds she’s wearing matching sexy bra and panties she admits she just changed into them. In the dining room. Yes! She isn’t just casually hanging around in them.

I liked this better than the last book in the series. I like that I am getting familiar with the family. I’m not super invested in these love stories. There is something that feels a bit shallow about them. Sounds kind of contradictory because these characters have gone through a lot, but something about their relationships don’t really grab me. I liked Zach as the hero. He was really nice and sweet.

I really enjoyed reading this! I couldn't give it 5 stars because I genuinely hated how she pushed him away. It came across as cruel when she kept thinking that she knew how he would feel etc, especially since he'd held off having sex. I also disliked a conversation her and May had about his sexuality. It came across odd I think, Lark said he might be gay when they were talking about why he hadn't had sex, and May said "the thought had occurred to me... growing up with a bunch of religious fanatics could do a number on you."... To me, it comes across like she's saying he could be gay because he was messed up from the cult? like... what? Go away.

I was also hoping this series would then do a F/F book, but alas, no. I looked it up, and now I'm just sad. But that's not this book so moving on.

I really liked Zach. I wish his actual backstory was more in the forefront of this story and the focus wasn't so much on Lark. I dunno, I didn't really like Lark the more time I spent with her. I get she's hurting and traumatised, but her actions are mostly selfish for the entirety of the book and it's painful to see some of the stuff that unfolds. I will say, I do think it was an OK representation of trauma, which is why I still rated the book so high, but it was definitely hard to like her. I also didn't like how adamant she was about staying away from mental health stuff, she cried when she was in hospital, because she didn't want to get 'locked in a mental institution', going so far as to call her care 'psycho day camp'... I dunno, it just put me on edge how shit she was about it, but again, I can see it being a realistic reaction from certain people etc.

But beyond that, I really enjoyed reading the book. I honestly felt all the feelings during this, and overall it was a great read.
