Hmm, I don't know what to make of this it is a book full of atmosphere and tension, analogies for the alienation of the outsider but in the end one was left wondering, to what end.

Only the deeply mentally ill will truly understand this book. Gothic ancient dark fairytale witch legend. A narrator so utterly introspective yet blind to everything about themselves. Mysterious, infuriating, deeply resonant. Heathcliff turned inward. Tim Burton, Twin Peaks, Midsommar. Disturbing. Wild.

Interesting. I've seen it described elsewhere as a literary exercise rather than a book, and I can certainly see that. I think there's a lot caught up in the unreliable narrator aspect, and it is certainly a pretty sad story.

I could not tell you what this was about.

A story out of time. Apart from the occasional references to Microsoft Teams, Google etc. this could be read as happening at any time over the last couple of hundred years, as could the anti-semitism it describes. This was the most effective part of the novel, as otherwise I struggled to get to grips with it and ended up glad of it's brevity.

Perhaps I am too dense, but the sheer amount of metaphors and allegories made it practically incomprehensible. What I did take away from the story wasn’t even enjoyable. It was a dragging tale of othering—a woman who always felt like the weird outcast all her life.

Honestly this book made me feel stupid because I just didn’t understand half of she wrote. And her run-on sentences made it extremely difficult to read.
