Brians Winter

Gary Paulsen

3.75 AVERAGE

Reading to keep up with my son’s interests. I can see why it’s a favorite.

Quite an interesting children's/young adult book about surviving in the winter Canadian wilderness. I tore through this, rather amazed at Brian's resourcefulness. I don't know if I could survive in the wilderness like that! Though I'd like to think I could.

“Do what you can as you can. Trouble, problems, will come no matter what you do, and you must respond as they come.”

After reading Hatchet this past year, I got hooked and wanted to figure out how Brian’s journey of being stranded in the Canadian wilderness would continue through the winter. Though Hatchet is a complete book all its own, this book is an extension of it, which I like. It was very similar to Hatchet, but with it being winter it felt like a whole new setting that really upped the scare factor on his odds of survival.

A nice sequel to Hatchet with a better ending.

This is the story of what would have happened if things had turned out differently than they did in Hatchet. Brian not only has to survive in the wilderness, but has to do so in the brutal cold of winter. He once again uses hit wits and resourcefulness to overcome obstacle after obstacle.
