Brians Winter

I liked this alternate ending to Hatchet. Getting to see how Brian would have overcome surviving in the outdoors over the winter was interesting. I can't imagine being that aware or knowledgeable if I was in the same situation.

The third book in the series employed an interesting narrative device I have never seen used before. It starts at the end of the first book, but it tells us to ignore how Brian was saved and just pretend he's still stranded in the wilderness and now has to face the winter. In spite of this weird choice the book still works. It's fun, engaging and easy to read. Definitely gonna be a book series I give to my nephews for birthdays and Christmases.

I love this book, probably have read it 30 times. It’s the one I think that sets the tonal shift for the Brian series and I’m so here for it. I know they are for kids but god I wish they were longer.

This story served as a nice little “what if?” Scenario. I enjoyed this one more than “The River”, but I think because it was a hypothetical scenario it felt a little too low-stakes compared to Hatchet. Brian solves a lot of the problems that come his way pretty easily though winter was new territory for him. Overall, a nice quick read.

An amazing story of what if Brian hadn't been rescued in the first book.  I loved listening to Richard Thomas read this book and wish he had read the whole series.  I can't wait to listen to book 4.
