I'm a sucker for a Scottish romance (low-key always chasing the Outlander-lite vibes) and inheriting a (magical) bookstore in Scotland - sign me up! This was cute and funny, but a little too much going on. The magic aspect could have been interesting but was barely touched on. I actually think I wanted it to be longer so the plot could be more rounded out - I finished the book feeling like I was missing pieces.

Lighthearted and cute. I am glad I read it. I wouldn’t call it a Christmas book, even though it is during the Christmas season. It’s more of a wintery-y book. The pacing was a little off for me.

A cute, wintry rom-com with a bit of magick to start a new year.

This was a perfect *ring in the New Year!* read. A sweet, lower angst romantic comedy with quirky and endearing characters. There book equivalent of a nice cup of holiday blended tea.
My main complaint- the first half of the book was better than the last. I felt like a lot of the unique aspects that made me enjoy the story and the writing, things that were funny at first, became a bit stagnant after a while. The second half kind of dithered around and prolonged the angst more than necessary. 4.5 for the first half, 3.5 for the second, but finished alright.
Rosie- FMC: likeable, the quintessential quirky-cute FMC, new owner of an old, small Scottish town bookshop, bequeathed to her by a great aunt she had never met, and a wee bit of magick.
Alexander- MMC: a bit of a stereotypical personality for a romcom software engineer (quiet, socially awkward) but also tall, muscular, and hot.
Level 3 for steam/spice. Has decent pacing for a natural building attraction.
Cozy: 9.5/10. A romcom based on a small town bookshop in Scotland, at Christmas. I mean...come on.
Charming: 8/10. The secondary characters (notably the *Book B!tches*) and a puffin really set this book apart. And again. The setting. (Bookshop, small town, Scotland, aye?). Lots of little details that add to the overall feel.
Clever: I laughed and highlighted multiple lines. I thought the first half of the story was better than the last- some of the funny quirks were overused and wore out after a while. The pacing dropped a bit the second half of the book.
Character driven: yes-ish. The characters were fairly believable and likeable. The ensemble cast of characters were especially endearing.
Would I read again: Probably not.
Would I recommend: Yes, for cozy romcom fans.

The only saving grace of this book was that it was set in Scotland and there were really wonderful side characters. The book started off sweet, I was intrigued by the magical bookshop. It started to get a little boring with no real problems happening and then the main characters had to get into a really stupid argument. It was a really lazy way to force the characters into their growth.
