You get the ending everyone quietly wants, but is afraid to say out loud.

A novel that wields moral ambiguity so that the mind wanders to any number of questions surrounding the brutal, hate-filled history of the United States and it’s through lines that can be easily drawn today if you choose to take the moment. From the relationship between law and race to asking ourselves “Who do we tolerate and why offer them this luxury?” - There is so much to this novel and so much to discuss, that there is no possible way for this one review to do justice.

Unexpectedly sharp humor (for the first 200 or so pages), mystery, a touch of magick, a wave of perfect murders, and a list of names from the country’s past to tie it together. This is my first book by Mr. Everett and it won’t be my last.
