Ok but Nora sucks?? What a terrible, manipulative, narcissistic woman.

This one started like her other books but quickly changed. It was like reading a book within a book to learn the past. Unlike her other books, I had figured most of the story out by about half way through. But I was still catching things until the end. I love how she holds just enough information so you can’t quite put it all together until the end. By the end though, I really disliked Nora and how her secret ruined so many lives.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this. I disliked the family dynamic between Nora, Polly, and Jess, but the story was very good.

Really I’d give 3.5 stars. Good story, just too long. Well written and engaging.

On Christmas Eve 1959 in Australia, a mother and her four children are found dead at a riverside picnic, and in 2018, a woman in London rushes home to Australia when her beloved grandmother is hospitalized. Family secrets and mysteries are slowly revealed. I was a bit confused at the beginning, but I loved the way all the pieces came together in the end, with plenty of surprising twists. I wasn't able to go to book group, but it got an average rating of 7.2 (out of 10), and I gave it an 8. I talk more about the book in this short video:

figured out the twist too soon, i think this would have been better as a straight up family drama.
