The author created a vivid picture of distinct characters and place. The intriguing mystery compelled me to keep listening to the audiobook read by the fabulous Clair Foy. However, the jumping back and forth in time for most of the book meant that the author felt the need to reprise events with each jump to orient the reader, which to me ended up feeling unnecessary, repetitive and ultimately caused the middle of the book to drag. It felt like this could be accomplished with a sentence or 2. Also, it felt like at times too much detail was given, detail that didn't drive the story forward or reveal something important about a character.
