I think... novels made up 100% of poetry are a little bit insufferable, because there are always some moments that you're just like "this should be a paragraph, you just put in line breaks to stick with your poetry scheme." So, I was a little skeptical when I started it, and considered putting it down a few times. And there were a few lines I got really tired of reading throughout the book, images that somebody was clearly really proud of that I just... was not impressed by.

THAT BEING SAID, I'm really glad I stuck with this. Sani and Moth were a charming pair, and their road trip was beautiful. Some lines and images WERE extremely potent, and while I suspect it probably could have still been done with just some poetic-prose, that's probably just my style/biases, and not really my decision to make for the author, sooooo

Definitely know some poetry-minded students who would have enjoyed this. A little repetitive, but interesting, and the audience will like the twist. Appreciated that the Author's Note gave context to the rootwork and family tie-ins, helps with reader comprehension.

This has been on my TBR for so long (solely because the MC’s name is Moth lol). And I am kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. This is absolutely gorgeous, and I need to read all of McBride’s writing now.
