the reveals and twists of books like this are never as good as the mystery and build up, it always just goes off the rails and gets not scary or interesting

Lesbian who can bring back the dead? Another lesbian who loves her for it? FUCK YEAH
I'm genuinely going to cry about this book. It was so good and AHHHH. There are so many words, but I don't think any of them might do this book justice. I know I say this all the time, but this story was a complete surprise from the first to the last sentence. It had such an ethereal beauty about it. I have a thing about plants and how they're described in books which was clearly why I deeply hated House of Hollow. However, this book managed to put everything together in a way that didn't gross me out. On the contrary, all this death and the greenery and the lesbians gave me life. I'm not one to usually read or watch horror stories, but when I do I happen to find the most pleasant gems, and this was one of them. Seriously now, it wasn't just a beautiful book. It was engaging, mysterious, creepy, interesting and, most of all, so so lovable. I couldn't stop thinking about it, my hands reaching all the time to read one more chapter. The characters were so nicely build! Marin was such a well done portrayal of anxiety and grief at the same time. Don't even get me started on Evie, my eternal love. She wall all that I could've ever wanted in life and I'm not kidding. And together, they made the perfect match. Their interaction was absolutely delicious. I was rooting for them from the moment Evie appeared. They are the embodiment of soft and all the right things. The girls were perfectly splendid. Who am I even kidding? I loved everything about this book, every last.
Bye now, back to screaming into the void about Marin and Evie.
"But if Evie was damned, then Marin might as well have been damned right alongside her.
Because Marin was completely in love with her."

Yes this book was the thriller I needed. I am quickly falling in love with this author and this is the second book of hers that I read. I love that she can write a good wlw romance that isn't geared toward the male gaze AND have a plot that keeps you on your toes. I actually found the plot twists to be completely unpredictable (in a good way) and the characters were very put together. I also enjoyed how she entwined trauma and grief into the plot. The only real issue I had was that sometimes the main character would have really flowery ways of thinking or describing things that didn't always seem natural.

Ok, wow, why did J not learn about listening to Taylor Swift on shuffle while reading this? As I was finishing this Tolerate It came on. I also read this along with my friend Madi for our Book Club and let me tell you, we had lots of conversations about the plot twists. There was so many amazingly interesting twists and turns throughout this book that made it hard to put down. We both had so many guesses on what could happen. The characters in the book I feel were written well, but there are some characters I wish we got more of. But the book had a very similar vibe to The Fall of the House of Usher.

I really enjoyed this book. Was a bit slow in the beginning, hence 0.25 star less.
Really loved the writing here. Similar to Bad Graces, it’s very quite romantic. Lovely descriptions.
I really like how the budding relationship between the two FC is described in a very “gentle” way suitable to a YA audience.
Loved the 4 girls! Each one of them so different but bringing so much to the story.
Great concept and plot as well!
The ending could be a bit more dramatic but hey! It was still great!
Going to explore this author more for sure!
