So this is an interesting one to rate --for me as a reader it's actually more a four star read, but I've given it five because I think it does what it says on the tin--a truly teen gothic horror--flawlessly; and the things that didn't quite work for me are because it's written for teenagers rather than adult horror fans and has actually nailed that difference in demographic. It's good! Buy it for the teenage girls in your life you want to induct into horror!
Bonus points for an all-female cast, a wonderfully sympathetic protagonist with anxiety, a gorgeous sapphic romance and a very tender and hopeful exploration of grief.

This book was a fun time, my only hang up is some of the lore doesn't hold up, there are a few plot holes because of it.

I just really loved the characters and how the romance was so cute and nice while the whole aesthetic and rest of the story is about death and necromancy!
