Awesome plot, though a bit confusing (Janeway: time travel = headache).  Big twist at the end, now have to read the 2nd book.

This book was so amazing I can't even think of the right words to describe it. Passenger was so beautifully written! The romance wasn't to much and it didn't heat up until halfway through the book but that's ok because it wasn't unrealistic either. Etta was so amazing. When she traveled back for the first time she reacted in a perfectly normal way (panicking) and was pretty confused but as soon as she realized what was really going on she didn't start screaming and demanding things. She actually thought things through. Sure she was angry and confused but she was not stupid. I love her character because (unlike a lot of main characters) she is brave but not stupid. Nicholas is so wonderful I loved him from the start. He expected the worst from Etta but never got it instead he was surprised over and over again by her kindness understanding and eventually love for him. Nicholas is such a defensive person his heart is surrounded by many many walls but Etta is just the person to break through them. Sophia irritated me to end but I truly felt for her she was just not strong enough to break free of the Ironwoods and when she finally did take a chance she went the opposite direction of anything good. I'm not going to go into detail with all of the characters but I will say they were all portrayed wonderfully and I really truly can't wait for the next and last book in the series! which is being released a whole eight months from now! Idk if I can stand to wait that long but somehow I'll pull through *sigh* . Conclusion: book is awesome. Author is awesome. Next book I know will be awesome. Waiting for next book not awesome. Alright I'm through God Bless.

This book goes into no explanation as to why things are happening. Why and how are people time traveling? What is the point? The first chapter takes over an hour to read and barely anything happens. The prologue is incredibly confusing.

As a fan of The Dark Minds Trilogy , I was thrilled after reading the synopsis for this new series from Alexandra Bracken. While the subject matter is vastly different, the unique style found in TDM was prevalent throughout Passenger . I could not have enjoyed it more and cannot wait for the next installment.

While it's difficult to describe, here are a few highlights of things I enjoyed most about this book:
* Diversity - Nicholas Carter is a biracial hero living in the 18th Century. He's intelligent, loyal, and complex. I adored him from the first few chapters, but he's faced with countless obstacles from the beginning, but it never deters his character.
* Strong heroine - Etta is amazing; she's brave, selfless, and self sufficient. While she has somewhat of a bond of Nicholas, she is confident in her own abilities to save herself.
*Storylines - NO spoilers, but it's a new spin on time travel aspect. I look forward to discovering more.
* Detailed - There is complex world building and small details that are often overlooked in historical fiction. It truly felt as if I were on a ship and all the locations described in the book.
* No love triangle - It is so overdone in the YA world, and I am rejoicing there does not appear to be one in sight here.

Thank to you Disney-Hyperion and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book.

Passenger was my first book about time travel and I quite enjoy it.

Etta is a simple violinist who knows nothing about time travel and suddenly is caught in the middle of it all, but because she is badass, she moves on and stay strong.
I liked how the book has also the Pov of Nicholas, it helps to understand that he is a time travel a well-experienced time traveler that comes from 1700's and help guide her along the way.
He went through a lot and want to stay away from all the confusion with Ironwood but at the same time wants to help Etta. SO CUTE!!!

As Etta was thrown into it from the beginning and the world was intense in the book from the beginning, it was a bit slow to read especially in the first 100 pages, but there are things that reward, after everything was walking, it was great.

I mean Etta is basically kidnapped through time by a man who is not a good man and is trying to rule the world and want to profit by it. And he thinks Etta can find the tool that he want? GOD!!
She was like " Hello? I have no idea what you are talking about!"

Seeing her with Nicholas is exciting because it is not boring at all they are always in dangerous situations, I loved the places we can see in the book, and what makes them fun besides they having time to find the object, we see the details of each time and city, what makes me want to pack and go...

I was impressed how has built the physical configurations but also how to describe in detail which is important if Nicholas a black man and Etta an American woman, would be abandoned in any of these places. TRAGEDY!!

I gave 4.5/5 stars because it was a quite slow for me to get in the story, but when i finished, by the way the end will blow your mind....

Reread for the 2nd time thoughts:

Ohhh-kay. So the I tried my very best to be in the mood for this book. To be honest I like it more than the first time. The concept of time travel, I might say, is well thought of. The adventure of finding the missing astrolabe is interesting enough as they search from clues. HOWEVER, the romance in this book is really overpowering the whole plot. The attraction of the characters fit well to angst adult contemporary than a time travel book. I really want to bump this book up a half star but I can't. The romance is cringy at its finest. I wished the author has toned it down a little.

Thoughts on first reading it:

NOT A FAN. The beginning is okay, the middle is bearable and I struggle in the last 4 chapters and I did not like it A LOT. The characters are frustrating and unlikable! 2.25 to 2.5 out of 5 stars.

This book is actually pretty hard for me to rate.

In the beginning, I've had to put it down quite a few times, because it had lost my interest and it had become a bit tedious, but as the story moved along, I started to enjoy it more and more.

I really liked the two main characters, Etta and Nicholas, and their romance, as sweet as it became, to me it felt like it didn't add something important to the story. Which was fine. I just didn't feel like it was quite necessary, but I did grow to like them.

This was much more slow-paced than I expected it to be which is why I continuously got bored. Apart from that, I enjoyed it.
