I started this book kind of iffy but now I can't believe this is over. It went so fast!! I love this book and I am so excited for book 2.
The time travel is so interesting. You wouldn't think that the events would play how it would but they did. I love the characters and how the rules work in time travel. I adore the two main characters: Etta and Nicholas and their relationship.
I honestly have to say I don't like Rose at the moment and she is a horrible mother. I loved seeing Alice young and how all the pieces fit together. And the paintings! I love how her mom gave her all the pieces and Etta just has to fit them together, but quickly. And I loved when they were on the ship the first night. I laughed so much but also wanted to shoot wren. I think he will make an appearance in book 2.
I love Nicholas but I hate how there is a wall between them because of his skin. But I am so happy that Etta is strong enough to make her own choices and stand for what she believes. Ah I have so many thoughts so I now have to watch book review videos on it! Please read.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a very unique plot line with new and inventive characters that aren't like those of the Hunger Games or Matched. The cliff hanger is pretty intense, even the one at the beginning (literally and figuratively). I can't wait for the next book.

Wait, you mean that's it?? Where's the next book?! *sighs*

Okay, in all seriousness, this book was amazing! I was super scared to read it, because there was so much hype surrounding it, and I didn't want to not like it. I was an idiot. This book is so amazing! I loved the characters, their development, the twists, the turns, the cliff hanger(!!!!), everything! Alex has such an amazing way with words, and I can't wait for the next book in this new series of hers!!

I enjoyed the plot but found the writing and the characters hard to connect with. 0 on the cry scale.

Really awesome time-travel adventures! Think, if Rose and Mickey from Doctor Who went on adventures in their own TARDIS. Really amazing, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

*Slight Spoiler, but may be crucial to the shipping of characters*

And, after having been burned by other books (*cough* City of Bones *cough*) and therefore being very hesitant in regards to shipping when there is ambiguous or unknown paternity, I can guarantee that it is totally, 100% okay to ship Etta and Nicholas.

I wanted to read this book really badly mainly because of the time travel trope which is my favourite. What I love about it every author puts their own image about time travel there and none is the same. I must admit that I really enjoyed this type of time travel that Alexandra Bracken introduced to us.

The overall story of the book sounded pretty interesting and I wanted to read it for quite a long time. It took me a while to get into the story but it was fun, I liked it, even though it could be a bit boring at times. But I really liked the ending which kept me wanting to continue and wanting to know what happens.

But even though I liked the story, mostly, it was a hard time for me to like the characters. I liked Etta, Rose and Alice, that was alright. I liked Etta's love for music. But every other character that was introduced (maybe except for Hasan) I disliked.

I couldn't make myself like Nicholas and I can't even explain why. There was something very unlikable about him and I kept asking myself what does Etta see in him. And also the fact that Etta suddenly couldn't do anything alone and he was acting very controlling? That was supposed to be the cute romance?

And Sophia was so annoying. At everything she said I had to roll my eyes. She thought she was this amazing and capable person but I couldn't stand her. (But that was probably the point of her character.)

My other big complaint is the writing. Maybe I'm not used to reading books in Czech anymore but I had to cringe at the unusual descriptions and parables. That was very weird.

Otherwise, I liked the story so I plan to continue the series because I want to know how it ends. It was very enjoyable.

< 3*- just too slow
I finally managed to push through this tome!
And it was good, albeit with many issues.

This is a time-travel novel, featuring:
1) Bhutan, 1910
2) New York City, present day
3) The Atlantic, 1776
3) London, 1940
4) Angkor, 1685
5) Paris, 1880
6) Damascus, 1599

Damascus and WW2 were longer and more enjoyable, however I really would have liked more than 10 pages for Paris. :/

The writing: Alex Bracken's writing is - as usual - slow, wordy and descriptive. It does showcase her competency and is bound to impress an English teacher, for example. But as a reader, I'd rather not trudge through paragraph-long descriptions about the air, tending to clog up the story a little. It did paint beautiful pictures in my mind, though, so perhaps it's not such a negative thing. Depends on your preference - it renders the novel rather slow and I found it difficult to get through, in addition to the 500 thick pages.

Characters & romance: I admit, I don't particularly like or care about any of the characters - nothing really stands out to me - and the insta-love was irritating. The number of pages I skipped because I couldn't care less is overwhelming, honestly I'm really not a fan of Nicholas and Etta's romance. It feels so... forced. Also, the excess dialogue between the two was tiresome too - they spent 10 pages every so often just talking nonsense about what they'd done and what they were planning to do and any other boring subject. Really, quite repetitive. I don't think I've ever had a problem with dialogue, but there's a first for everything I suppose.

I feel like if Etta had a friendship with Sophia that would have been much more interesting, instead of her and Nicholas endlessly pining over each other.

Overall, this book is slow, drags through too many unnecessary words (lots could have been cut), the romance isn't great. However, I will admit that the time-traveling aspect was intriguing, and I enjoyed this, just not abundantly. If you're looking for something slow-paced, rich and original, you could give this a try, but if I could, I would tell my former self to give it a pass.

OH, MY WORD! I definitely recommend this book if you like time travel, treasure hunts around the globe, and romance.

I was skeptical to read this book and was unsure on how to approach it, however, once I got started I could not set it down. I was upset that there wasn't more. It did, however, have a slow start and picked up as it went along. Passenger gives time traveling a whole new unexpected twist, it goes against everything you thought you knew about time travel. It has a fast-evolving love story between the two main characters, one from the 21st century and the other was from the 18th century (very star-crossed lovers). Etta was very independent and ready to defend herself without the need of a man. While Nicholas being from the 18th century and respectful was ever the man, who wanted to protect and defend Etta, when she could clearly do it herself.
