Pros:

• Very eerie supernatural elements that aren't over-explained, left satisfyingly ambiguous 
• Some good quotes that stuck with me 
• Inventive genre work to combine noir and horror with Hispanic/Mexican culture

Cons:

• A lot of reliance on tropes
• Many of the characters felt flat/underdeveloped to me
• I wasn't as invested as I'd like in the plot
• The messages about race, immigration status, and gender felt preachy

Chapters 1-39 were excellent. Really thought provoking. Suspenseful. Bizarre. It worked. I thought we were about to have a four, maybe five star book.

Chapter 40 was a steaming pile of shit and I am angry I read it.
