I stopped reading this when I had to return it to the library when I moved in Aug 2020, and it took me 2 years to slooooowly finish. The series was interesting and action packed but SO complicated and the characters weren’t very likable.

Honestly I never say this but I was hoping she’d take a risk and kill someone off

I loved This Mortal Coil, the idea is original and creative. I liked This Cruel Design, welcoming the characters back into the story. I enjoyed This Vicious Cure, but the least of the three; the story seemed to drag a bit and the character development lagged, but all in all the trilogy is a worthwhile read.

I love this series but although I found this book enjoyable I was frustrated but one of the main characters for a solid 80% of the book. The world building and ideas behind this series are incredible and I have loved reading it. I felt the final instalment was fast paced, filled with action amd moral dilemmas and there were some strong character development.

This book was bonkers crazy, and when I say crazy, I mean CRAZY. I don't remember half the stuff that went down in this book because of the sheer amount of things that happened. I liked the plot twists (yes, plural) that happened at the end, even though they were kinda unbelievable. I kinda wish that Mrs. Suvada wrote Ziana and Anna more into the story because I thought they could be very great and interesting characters if explored. I feel like this book was kinda rushed and might have progressed more naturally if there was maybe another book. I think Mrs. Suvada could make spin-off series or novels based on the different characters. I really don't like Jun Bei as a character but I think her escape and all that happens after could make a good book. Also, what was the point of the pigeons like???huh??? Also, the Lurkers weren't explained properly and were kinda glanced over. Plus, I did like the idea of the the different POVs from Catarina and Jun Bei, but every time I would get to Jun Bei’s chapter my reading speed would significantly slow down because I just didn’t like Jun Bei as a character.

Spoiler I liked that Cole and Catarina didn't exactly end up together at the end, even though it's kinda implied. This shows that Catarina wants a real and healthy relationship with Cole and that's kinda iconic. But also, even though I did like Cole's mind being wiped at the end of the second book, I feel like it made him feel like a second-thought in this book. Also, Lee and Dax’s relationship???? Huh??? I feel like their relationship could have been really good, but the problem for me was that 1. They were literally shown together twice, neither times really having a obvious connection and 2. I don’t think Dax ever talked about Lee, like, ever. I think Mrs. Suvada tried with this couple but the problemo was that she never really wrote them scenes together (which I kinda understand because Lee and Dax were both working to stop a war and stuff) and I feel like she just said to herself “Hey who can be Lee’s love interest???? Hey,,,, maybe he can be,??? Gay???? Hmmm but I gotta make another character gay too???? Hey, maybe I can make Dax bisexual!!!” and just left it at that. The upside of this couple is that Lee’s a cutie and deserves to be happy

This has been a crazy series with plenty of twists that I didn’t see coming. And I am not talking about little things, but twists that shift the entire direction of the story. I counted two of these with plenty of smaller ones.

Overall, Jun Bei is somewhat of an anti-hero. Not exactly a good guy. She drove me crazy at times when she would get alerts saying she was low on sleep and energy, and that her body would shut down without food or sleep, but she says “I don’t have time to eat or sleep. I have to keep going.” Does she not realize that passing out would be more time consuming than taking care of herself? I thought she was supposed to be smart. Eat a cheeseburger already!

The book only gets 4 stars though because the ending was just way too convenient. The only thing missing was everyone gathering around to sing kumbaya.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this series.
