A tense and terrifying read from start to finish. I loved how the book handled the possession side of the story and tried to provide real explanations for it. Going so far as to never definitively say whether it was truly possession. Watching the possession of Regan is as sad as it is creepy. All the characters are written incredibly well and Blattly does a great job of making you feel so much sympathy for her mother Chris. If you want a good creepy horror novel then this is a great one to pick.

4.5 stars. The characters were definitely interesting and the plot was quite enjoyable. As for the writing, it was a lot better than I expected going into it. It's descriptive but not overly so, and is quite easy to follow. I didn't it find it too scary, however, because I have read and watched a lot of horror, but it was unsettling and rather atmospheric, which added to the demonic tone of the story. It did use a lot of religious terminology that I wasn't familiar with, and thus it was sometimes hard to grasp for me personally, but overall, quite an enjoyable read. Highly recommended for those who are horror fans or are just getting into horror!
