It's JLA so naturally I loved it. It was a really good introduction to the Dark Elements world.
*3 stars*
Heavily predictable but entertaining on the whole. Jennifer L. Armentrout always gets me excited about reading, and her books, that is, what I've read so far, are consistently pleasurable as well as enjoyable and easy to read. The main series will follow certain supporting characters, in this novella, who I am curious about; I will read on, for sure.

This book was just 'eh.' I love this author but this prequel wasn't as engaging as I thought it would've been.
I have read so many Jennifer L. Armentrout books this year it's ridiculous. But her books are addicting I can't help it!
Even though I ADORE her books I don't really like her prequels that much. They are good but not like her series. THEY ARE AMAZING.
In Bitter Sweet Love, we basically were informed about the characters and the world. I have to admit Dez was really cute but SERIOUSLY I NEED TO READ ZAYNE'S STORY RIGHT NOW! He looks awesome and we saw him in like 10 pages. I also really liked Layla. She looks really cool as well.
I'm super excited for this new series!

Bitter sweet love is the novella in the dark elements trilogy. It takes place a number of years before the first part White hot kiss. This series has already been published by Harpercollins, but has now been given a new look by Zomer & Keuning.
Three years ago they were best friends, grew up together, and even some love blossomed between them. Until one day Dez suddenly disappeared. Jasmine was devastated and was therefore tongue-tied when Dez suddenly returned. Where has he been?
Upon arrival, Dez immediately proposes a partnership, this is an engagement, as it were. Jasmine has doubts about this proposal. Can she still trust Dez after he just left? She decides to use the seven-day cooling-off period to test Dez. Seven days to conquer her heart. Will Jasmine come to trust Dez again? Will Dez manage to win Jasmine her heart for good?
Bitter sweet love contains an abundance of love. The story between Dez and Jasmine is told briefly but to the point. Because the story contains a lot of love, it is really a story to melt away.
The writing style is very smooth, but the addition of love makes it even smoother. I flew through the story.
Because Bitter sweet love is a novella, the characters are only worked out superficially. Their emotions, on the other hand, are always clearly described. Jasmine has a strong personality and knows what she wants. Dez, on the other hand, also knows what he wants. He wants Jasmine.
It's nice to read how these characters interact and how their will is expressed through demands.
Because the book was published by a new publisher, the cover has also been completely changed. The cover of Harpercollins is light in color, with a girl in the foreground. Zomer & Keuning has decided to decorate the cover full of color and beautiful details. In the new cover, black wings can be seen on a wooden surface. I personally like the new cover more than the old cover because of the use of color.

I liked this short novella. It wasn’t mind blowing, but I liked reading about the back story of how Dez and Jasmine got together.
I wished it was a bit longer and gave more details about how they bonded when they met, and more details about his time away. However, I’m glad she gave us this little snippet.

I loved this book. I love this whole series. The characters are well developed and when you're reading they pull you in. They seem real. They have their own quirks and personalities, their own flow. When characters are written so well that you start to believe they could actually be real, that's a sign of a truly great author.
Such a sweet short story to tie into the rest of the trilogy.
The thing I hate: the narrative voice is very alike to Layla, and this is a huge failure because as a reader, I need to feel each character as unique.
The thing I love: the last part when Roth appeared watching Layla... was a wow because she was only thirteen in that moment...
