This was definitely way better than the first one. Perhaps it was the familiarity with the characters, but it was easier to ease into this story. The story itself was much more complex, I enjoyed reading the parallels between earth and Aski, especially when it came to Eli's experiences with bullying. Even the
Spoilertime traveling aspect
was tied up really well with Mason and the pisiskowak from
Spoilerboth times
. Overall, the stories in both worlds wrapped up really well. I just wish this book didn't end on a cliffhanger, but that's mainly because I don't want to continue with the series. I'm pretty sure kids who are really invested in these books would love that cliffhanger.

A good sequel, I really enjoyed this one, though I was dubious of the lesson learned by the MC’s, because I did not learn a lesson either.

There is something about this series that reminds me of Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Perhaps it is the portal in the attic, children displaced, talking animals. But this is not a retelling of that story. This stands alone. I love the themes of cultural identity, self worth, bravery, community, and family and the indigenous story telling

Book 2 in the Misewa saga did not disappoint! It is magical and adventurous. It has a subtle poignancy to it and has very emotional moments.
The characters are so loveable, the story is so engrossing too.
And the twists and cliff hanger 🤯
I can’t wait to read book 3!

I love this series with all of my heart, but the pace was really slow in this one. Fingers crossed the next will be quicker

There was too much telling-not-showing and incoherent writing/worldbuilding.

Bullies are bad. Great addition to the series. My jr high students will eat this up! Such a great and easy way to experience Indigenous ways of knowing.
