A decent graphic novel about a father's quest to help his daughter overcome her insecurities. Basically the same idea but not quite as well done as Level Up.
fast-paced

Never knew a comic book can be so bad.

I read this comic book in one sitting. The art fell a little short for me. The intro art for the creators was actually better in my opinion. The character development and exploration felt weak. The story was okay but not amazing. It was readable. I am not sure if I will read the sequels.

I guess my problem with it was, that it was my first grafic novel and I just don't think they're made for me..but the story was really fun and soo fast, I definitely love how fast you can read it! I can't really judge the art and all that because I don't have anything to compare it to..
but all in all I liked and enjoyed it. and that's what it's all about ;)

ACTUAL RATING: 0.5 STARS

everything was fast paced to the point where it felt like the whole story was just being skimmed. it wasn't in depth at all, it felt like the story was barely touching the surface. the characters seemed really fake and unrealistic. there was no time to really connect the any of them. it was the same old outcast trope that was really predictable. in all honesty, nothing was really that exciting about it. not that i expected much, oops.

This is the first graphic novel I've ever read, and I'm happy it was Joe's that I started with. Joe is my favourite YouTuber above everyone else. Joe's videos are the ones I turn to whenever I need a laugh, if I'm feeling down or just bored, I turned to his three channels because I know he'll put a smile on my face. So of course, I will support him in anything he's doing because he's done so much for me over the years that I've been subscribed to his channels.

This story is about a girl named Evie who is an outcast at her school. Her cousin, Mallory, being the main source of making her life miserable. When her dad dies, she turns to his computer and discovers a virtual world that he created just for her to escape reality. But when the world gets corrupted, it's up to Evie to save it and find her way home again.

I loved this story! It was great to read Evie go through a journey of self-discovery and self-worth. I loved the fantasy element of it as well. I just wish it was longer, and I hope there's a part 2 somehow. Another great thing about this graphic novel is that there was little Easter Eggs throughout the book that if you've been watching Joe's videos for a while, you will spot them easily.

I'm a very proud of Joe and this world his created in Username: Evie. It's an amazing story, and like I said, I'd love a part 2. Fun fact, this graphic novel broke world records when it was released. It is now the fastest selling Graphic Novel since records began. Well done, Joe!! Keep up the good work!

Another fun personal fact, I have two copies of this graphic novel, paperback and hardcover (signed). Something amazing happened when I first purchased the paperback edition; I posted on Instagram about it and Joe liked my post (something he'd done a week and half before when I posted about his DVD, Hit the Road. Caspar liked that post as well!!). Then, Joe announced he was putting a bulk order of signed copies on Amazon for a Christmas sale. So I cancelled my previous order of the Hardcover before it was shipped, and ordered a signed copy!! Now both editions to my copies have special things about them! Thanks Joe!!

Now, I'm not the type for "Youtuber books" at all, but I find that if they are written in the fantasy/sci-fi genre, then there would be a chance I'd pick it up. That was my case for Username: Evie.

I quite enjoyed this. There were elements that could have been improved in terms of plot and world building, but when it came to characters there was a good emotional depth there compared to our graphic novels I've read in the past.

PROs:
- I love Evie as a character. Her struggle really hit home and made me connect with the story in a great way.
- I love her dad <3 Dang it, this makes me want to cry
- <3 Lionel <3
- The art style was amazing, you could see that a lot of effort was put into it
- The concept of the alternate world was so interesting

CONs:
- I bloody hate Mallory. Even after the end. I feel like a lot was done with her as an antagonist, but barely any resolution later.
- Again, I think may world building and Evie adjusting more in the world before Mallory came along would have been better, but I understand that graphic novel art does take up lots of time
- I think some of the dialogue could have also slightly been improved to not sound too cheesy.

Overall, this was a decent graphic novel. I enjoyed my read experience. I will probably pick up the sequel in the future.
