Joe Sugg

3.09 AVERAGE

fast-paced

The concept was great, just not the best execution. There was a lot of spots where I was hoping they'd spend more time on a certain scene or topic and then it was over in 1 page. A bit frustrating. Also the characters would just suddenly change without a clear reason why?

I love Joe and I really wanted to love this book, but i didn't. It all happened so fast and it didn't make sense to me. And the ending! IT WAS SO AWKWARD!

I don't actually own it, I just went to Waterstones and sat down and read it because I liked it so much. Amazing story and graphics, I wish it was longer...

I really wanted to like this. Joe Suggs is completely adorable but the dialogue in this book is so contrived and plot has more holes than a sieve.

I bought this as a gift for my 10 year old nephew, but I ended up reading it myself first. I didn't know what to expect, but it had been ages since the last graphic novel I'd read so I went for it. OK. 3 stars, for me, means "decent". It could have easily been two stars. The sketches are decent (nothing amazing), the story is simplistic (I should actually go check if there's a suggested audience - maybe it's for younger kids, in which case I think it's perfect), the colouring was pretty awesome - I loved it. Now, part of the simple story are the characters which I thought were "meh". I don't know. The story didn't grip me. I do hope the 10 year old will have different feelings about this. I may come back and edit this review after he's done with it.

Rating: 1/5

Unfortunately I really didn't like this story. Whilst I felt the plot had potential I didn't think the graphic novel did it any justice and that everything was so rushed and 2D. I couldn't help but feel like the characters had very little reason for most of their actions and as a whole didn't deliver.

Unfortunately for me I did not enjoy this book much. The dialogue was rather corny and was confusing at a few points. The main antagonist Mallory was rather bland with a stereotypical personality. Some of the expressions in the art were confusing because I thought they meant one emotion when the dialogue said another. And sadly, the ending was both cheesy and felt too rushed.
